The Expertise Momin
The Expertise Momin
It is such a tragedy, so important a thing as the food served as Toam Baad Uz Majlis – the feast after Majlisas as Tabarruk- the Majlis bounty is mostly so lacking in taste and consistency in the cooking quality that it is gone half waste and not consumed. The appetite of the Momin eating it disappears. The food taste, cookery and the presentation of fine food is a science and related with the whole fruitiness and the gaudium of the art in gastronomy and its expertise
It is not degrading or a worldly pursuit to talk of good food. Good food is essential to keep the vitality of the Momin at prime to be able to listen to Majlis and contribute in hearty Salawat and the Ya Ali chant. Good food without having to invest unnecessarily large sum of money on its production is as essential as the clean and pleasing white Jajam for the floor, the Momeneen sit on for the Majlis, or the clean white Safa on the head of the Maulana, needed as decorum for the Majlis.
Good tasty rice dish, Pulau or Sada and good tasty Salan, Bhoona or Shorbay-Dar Gosht with delicious smell of roast spices, prepared for the Toam – the food of the Momeneen is very essential. It is where no miserliness in investment should be shown and if it was done it was to be regretted. God tasty food is a reflection on the cultural achievement of a people. The faith may be strong, hearts may be pure, but the culture may be reclining. I have never found rice pack distributed by the Iranis either lacking in taste or having traces of rice kernel which are uncooked. But I confess the rice served in the Toam of the Pakistani Majlis has no guarantee of its consistency of tastiness, as well that it will carry no uncooked kernels in it. The Dal sometimes can be very tasty and sometimes not and so was the state of the Salan – the gravy from meat.
It is essential therefore that approved recipe be standardised and it displayed in the kitchen complete with instruction for cooking, with heat intensity required given with the recipe. Then a team be prepared with their title of Gastronomic Momin, same as the Maulana and the Momin who has his place of distinction for his saying mere words of benediction and Ziarat – the salutation or the Soze Khwan who he has his place as of the Sudoor – the central figures of the Majlis, or a Marsia Khwan who will top the higher place between the two.
Now a Marsia Khwan Khwan is a rare commodity and these days in the dying phases of the art of Marsia Khwani it is art that needs to be nourished and revitalised and although there are Marsia Khwans like Zia Mohiuddin, also there, but he is generally a literary fanfare in the literary circle, and save his crisp Urdu pronunciation he can’t satisfy to have carried the audience to the land of purity of the Aehlebaait with the touch of grief in his voice, which is a must and he is nowhere near our Gastronomic Momin. Our Gastronomic Momin will have grief in his heart that will burst out in various cooking displays and in the presentation, looks and the taste of his food, because he doing service with conviction that he is going to please Bibi Fatimah Zehra SUA. And beyond that the logic is; the Aehlebaait Alaihemus-salat, the Honourable Jinns, the Pious Angels, all attend these Majalis and the food should be to their taste and to their approval.
It is essential therefore for anyone whose recipe of Dal is good like the one served on the 13th of February 2010 in the Majlis of the Shahadat of Hazrat Rasool-e Khuda SAWW and Imam Hasan-e Mujtuba Als, when Maulana Aayetullah Aqeelul Gharvi addressed the Majlis and Maulana Asghar Aejaz read his poems, he should deposit that recipe with the secretary of the Afkaar-e Shia at any of the Shia centres, this if carried consistency in taste with repeat productions and was found to have passed the flavour it contained that day, it will be entered in the list of good recipes and this will form the ‘pool recipe’, ready to be shared with other centres of Shia activity. I think the secret in this Dal’s excellent flavour was, it was charcoaled with its glowing embers and carried smoked flavour.
The other expertise Momin still hidden and out of sight is the one in the astronomy field. This Momin when he has emerged will be Astronomy Momin and he will follow in the footsteps of his Maula Ali. The Maula has said, “He knows the paths of the skies more than the paths of the earth.” What a meaningful thing has been said and in what simple words! The Astronomy Momin will know in deeper depths what lies behind this statement. He will come to the Menmber and speak on the Big Bang event of 13.7 billion year ago and what was before the Big Bang. He will talk of the String Theory; of more than five dimensions to the universe and his explanations into the universe’s fundamental forces. Let these days dawn and dawn fast.
We are not aware and want to know of our own solar system in depth. The Milky Way galaxy it resides in, whose diameter is about 100,000 light years and containing about 200 billion stars and the sun completing one revolution of the galactic core of our galaxy every 225 -250 million years which is the solar system galactic year. The nearest sun like star in our galaxy is (Tau Ceti), situated about 11.9 light years away from our solar system. The sun lies between 25000 to 28000 light years from the Galactic Centre and its speed within the galaxy is 220 kilometres per second at which rate it completes the revolution of the galaxy. And beyond the boundaries of the Solar System are the solar winds into the interstellar space and the sun’s gravity. The Maula talks about the wind in his sermons and about the path of the sun with its system through the interstellar space and of the sun like stars paths and the galaxies’ paths and inter galaxies’ travel. The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) has observed 3000 visible galaxies and a recent German Super Complex Computer simulation estimates that the number may be as high as 500 billion.
And that our sun’s chosen position in the galaxy is perhaps the factor for life on the Earth. But the sun is growing brighter at the rate of roughly ten percent every 1.1 billion years. Then the science of the astrology as to what influence the heavenly bodies have on our beings and our thoughts has to be studied. It is impossible to think these heavenly bodies when they enter in their houses of influence will have no influence on the external bodies to them and the state of affairs not affected and we ought to know. The Shia Aalami Juntry of 2008 published by the Mahfooz Book Agency Martin Road Imam Bargah Karachi made prediction for Pakistan, where what the Juntry claimed and predicted will happen did not happen. It said after six months of the election the country will become a police state, everywhere uniformed men will appear and the new army chief will take over. This was a very bold and blunt prediction by some Zulfequar Thower, which turned out to be completely wrong. Such abominable service from a Shia House should be stopped.

We are not aware of our own solar system in depth as the science would call for its knowing as to what influence the heavenly bodies have on our beings and our thoughts. It is impossible to think these heavenly bodies when they enter in their houses of influence will have no influence on the external to them state of affairs. The unfortunate story is that we so utterly lack in this science which is our heritage.

Maula-e Kaenat Hazrat Ali Ibn Abi Talib Als was going on the Naherwan errand that an astrologer looked at the sky and said to Hazrat Ali, ‘Maula this is the most inopportune time for you to to go on this errand. Maula Ali continued with the preparation and he put his foot in the stirrup and swung him on the saddle and asked the astrologer to now look at the sky and tell him what the stars say. The astrologer looked at the sky and said, ‘Maula this is the most opportune time for you to go on the errand. The Maula neither rejected the astrologer, nor rebuffed him. The astrologer though must carry firm knowledge that is needed to read of the influence, the stars will have. The Shia libraries should be equipped with Astronomy Magzines and even night sky reading telescopes.
