The Melting Pot of Fredericksburg - Restaurant Review

The Melting Pot is a fondue restaurant franchise with locations all over the United States. We visited the restaurant in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The Fondue Style of dining is truly an experience suggested to all. It was a unique experience to my husband and I as it was our first fondue meal. We went to dinner with another couple that was fondue or Melting Pot experienced. This minimized our confusion significantly. They guided us on what the choices were and how to order everything. Otherwise it would have taken us longer to order than it did to eat. I will say it is very intimidating if you have never been there before. The servers are very good at explaining everything but the pressure is on to place your order and get things underway. Without some additional explanation from our friends I think I would have been a little frustrated. The price per couple was approximately $90 which is significant in these economic times. We looked at it as a special one time deal and the $20 off coupon helped to keep us from freaking out at the price. Overall, the food and experience was great and we would suggest to splurge and give it a try.

Four Course Dinner

We had their famous 4 course dinner starting with the Cheese Fondue Appetizer. We had multiple choices of cheeses but settled on the Spinach and Artichoke with fontina and butterkase cheeses, and spinach and artichoke hearts with garlic. I can not explain how good this was. We had a variety of items to dip in the cheese mixture including bread, apples, and mixed vegetables. As we finished up the last bit of dip we were brought our salads. We both chose the California Salad. The mix of Baby Salad Greens, Roma tomatoes, walnuts and Gorgonzola Cheese with Raspberry Black Walnut Vinaigrette was awesome. Just the right combination of sweet and tart flavors.

The entree we chose was the Lobster. There were several cooking styles to choose from. This was basically the type of broth that you would cook your meal in. We chose the Mojo style which was a Caribbean seasoned bouillon with distinctive fresh garlic and citrus flavors. I was not sure how this would turn out with us cooking our own meats in the fondue pot. It did however turn out pretty good. Along with our lobster came some vegetables, chicken, shrimp, and pork. The server gave us his recommendations on cooking times for each to make sure we did not end up under cooking any of the meats. We had a blast cooking our food and enjoying all the great smells coming from the fondue pot. I ate most of the lobster while my husband talked with our friends. He was not real happy when he realized that it was all gone! I left him all the chicken, pork, and shrimp. All of the entree including the vegetables was very good cooked in the garlic and citrus broth.

The desert was by far my most favorite part of the four course dinner. We chose the Bananas Foster Chocolate Fondue. The was a white chocolate swirled with bananas and a dash of cinnamon. We had a variety of goodies to dip into this wonderful mixture. My favorite was the cheesecake. Others were marshmallows, apples, pound cake, and strawberries. I wish we had two pots of this it was so good. We both ordered coffee to accompany our delicious desert.

Though quite expensive, I would say that our experience was worth it. The food was great. The service was outstanding. The restaurant was very clean and the mood very romantic. I would definitely go to the Melting Pot again and suggest you to try it.

Reviews like that make me feel unlucky for not being a US resident! The Cheese Fondue Appetizer must be a real must have! Next time you go there, have a bite for me as well!
