Ya Gotta Go There!

We had family in town this past weekend. While searching for a fun place to eat, we chose to visit Threadgill's Restaurant downtown, 301 W. Riverside Drive. Because it was a Monday evening at 6:00 p.m., we had front row parking.

The decor for this eatery is not fancy, but the food is outstanding! If you like good home cooking, you will enjoy a meal at Threadgill's. The menu is extensive with a long list of vegetables to choose as well as your home favorites, such as meatloaf, chicken-fried steak and chicken livers.

The meal begins with a big basket of fresh dinner rolls and corn muffins. Be sure to ask for honey, it tastes great on the rolls. We began our meal with some fried green tomatoes which were delicious. I had a vegetable plate with five selections. My husband ordered the meatloaf and loved it. We split a peach cobbler for dessert, four spoons. The other end of the table ordered rhubarb pie.

The Restaurant Decor

Looking up at the ceiling during dinner, I noted many interesting items suspended in the air for decor, some were rather large. A board placed near the entrance listed the vegetables purchased from local area farms. A neon-lit jukebox stood against one wall, adding a bit of nostalgia to the scene. Near the cash register, a display case of t-shirts proudly shared colors and choices for purchasers. One member of our party made a souvenir purchase.

Our meal was tasty and the experience at Threadgill's was enjoyable. I highly recommend it as a stopping place for your next home cooked meal. There is plenty of parking and seating for everyone. I'm looking forward to my next visit!

North Lamar Location

6416 N. Lamar

Threadgill's Restaurant has two locations. In addition to the downtown location described above, the original location at 6416 N. Lamar is another option for lunch or dinner. We recently visited the North Lamar location for dinner on a Wednesday evening. Parking was easily accessible. There was an enjoyable live band during dinner and great food. The atmosphere was homey and inviting. The service was excellent. If you are a tourist visiting the area, choose a location and enjoy a great meal at Threadgill's! You will remember it for a long time!

This sounds like a great place to eat but the chances of me getting there are pretty slim right now. I need a vacation!

Sounds like a great place to eat and to have fun. Keep on sending in restaurant hubs. Foodies like me like to read though we many never visit.
