Two Simple Ways to Enjoy Kefir
Kefir? What's that, you ask. Kefir is very similar to plain yogurt but has it's own unique sweet and tangy flavor. The natural combination of yeast and probiotic bacteria in Kefir contributes to a healthy immune system, increase in energy and helps improve your intestinal system. Kefir is full of phosphorus, vitamin B12 and Vitamin K. It's a great substitute for buttermilk, sour cream or yogurt in any recipe. It's also great post workout since it provides an ample amount of protein.
Here are two very simple ways to enjoy kefir.
Chocolate Kefir
Whisk 1 tablespoon of your favorite hot chocolate powder with 1 cup of vanilla kefir together or place in a shake cup and shake. To develop a richer flavor, let the mixture sit at room temperature for 10 to 15 minutes before drinking. If you want to add a little more protein, use a chocolate whey powder instead of the hot chocolate powder.
Kefir Banana Smoothie
1 cup Kefir
1 ripe banana
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon honey
Blend the ingredients together.
