WhiteOaks Witches Brew

Being Creative

What would a Halloween Party or gathering be without a Black Punch? I have looked online and seen a ton of recipes basically using Grape and Orange soft drink mixtures that have sugar and ginger ale. But I wanted something different, something unique so I put my mind into thinking mode and came up with a few ideas. I hope you enjoy them. Yes, I do test everything before I share the recipes.

The recipes are going to be non-alcoholic drinks-but you could easily add some of your favorite alcohol like Rum or Vodka. I suppose if you decide to try the recipes, I would suggest revising it and adding some of your favorite alcohol to see how it would be. You have to admit, that truly sounds like fun all in itself!

So I am going to try and create the recipe and the names as we go along.

Midnight Punch

Bottle of Ocean Spray Blueberry Juice

½ Bottle of Apple Juice

Torani Vanilla Flavoring Syrup

One Liter Club Soda

Blue Food Coloring (to darken punch more)

Mix everything together adding the Club Soda last. You can add a couple of frozen hands By placing water into a plastic glove and fill it with water. Put into the freezer until it is completely frozen. Add to the punch bowl and you it will appear as a floating hand. OR they have some really cute Halloween shaped ice cube trays now. This is really fun and cute.. Use a regular ice cube tray and add gummy worms to them. Fill with water and freeze. As the ice cubes melt, it will look like you have floating worms in your punch!!

My Witches Brew

I am a tea drinker! A day does not go by that I do not drink tea and in the summer it is usually Green Tea. So I was thinking, why couldn’t I make a Black Witches Brew and turn it into a punch? So this is my Witches Brew concoction. What is better in the autumn than those rich, spices and those tart apples?

Bring two quarts of distilled or spring water to boil. In a separate container add 4 teaspoons of black tea (you can find this easily at your local grocery stores). Once your water has boiled, pour it over the black tea, cover and let it steep for 15 minutes or longer.

In a bowl add: ½ teaspoon of allspice, cloves and cinnamon pour in your black tea making sure to strain it good. Use a whisk and stir until the spices have dissolved. Add one quart of apple juice, and add some of your vanilla simple syrup. You will need to judge on the sweetness. Last add one or two liters of club soda. Gently stir.

Making Simple Syrup

Boil two cups of sugars and two cups of water together for approximately four minutes. Slice two vanilla beans and pour simple syrup over them. Cover and let set until mixture is cooled. Strain and place in a jar with a tight lid.

Serving the Punch

Get a larger bowl or a plastic cauldron and make sure that your punch bowl fits into it nice and loose. Pour your witches brew into the punch bowl and add a few pieces of dry ice in the plastic cauldron or larger bowl to give it the fog effect around your punch bowl. DO NOT PUT DRY ICE INTO THE PUNCH BOWL WITH THE WITCHES BREW!!
