Wonton King Chinese Restaurant in University City, MO

You inherently know when you walk into an ethnic restaurant and all of the staff match that ethnicity; not to mention most of the patrons as well; the food is going to be good. Real good. Such is the case at Wonton King in University City, a suburb of St. Louis. I became aware of this fact immediately as I walked into the restaurant for the first time. I have returned many times since, and I will continue to be a loyal patron. The owners and staff welcome us into their home as if we are family every time.
At lunch, the servers wheel dim sum carts around the dining room, and patrons can choose which dishes they would like. There are separate carts for hot and cold foods. If one is feeling rather daring about their food choices, they can try some unusual and non-traditional foods with little risk. These choices include tripe, chicken feet and pork intestines. The portions are all small, so if you do not like something, it can be quickly replaced with something a little more comfortable, such as fried rice, steamed buns or fried tofu. Shrimp is also quite prevalent on the carts.
At dinner, you can order from a massive menu that includes all the staples of a typical Chinese restaurant; fried rices, lo mein, stir-fries, hot pots, etc. But the quality of these ubiquitous dishes far exceeds any that can be had at the usual takeout place. The prices are about the same as the takeout joints, so a family or group of friends can try several dishes with plenty of leftovers to take home, for a decent price. They do not serve alcohol, but their hot tea and other tea drinks are very good. They also serve Coke products.
Wonton King is located amongst a strip of several Asian restaurants and grocers on Olive Street in University City, unofficially the China Town of St Louis County. Among these multiple restaurants, Wonton King stands out to me as the top in food quality, price and attentive, friendly service.
