Three food items come immediately to mind from my days in the Foreign Service: (1) Kangaroo Tail Soup. Verdict: tasty, good, similar to ox tail soup according to my Dad to whom I had given it as a Christmas present in order to finally give him a gift he couldn't guess. He got the soup part right, but try as he might the idea of Kangaroo Tail Soup never entered his mind. Dad 998, Me 1 (finally.) (2) Raw Chopped Duck Salad. Verdict: tolerable, in a diplomatic way of speaking (until my interpreter leaned over and cautioned me "You have to be careful of this. It can make you very sick." And, (3) Ant Soup. Verdict: not bad, also in a diplomatic way of speaking (the more standard one being "Interesting. Very interesting." It is, however, a little disconcerting to see all those rather large, reddish brown ants floating motionless on the top of one's "delicacy" bowl of hot soup!
