What is the food that comforts you the most when you are feeling down or stressed?

All of it pretty much, and I have worked for several years now to break the unhealthy habit of stress or emotional eating.  I find now that exercise or just engaging in another activity I enjoy (photography etc) is just as effective without the negative side effects of weight gain and crashes.  My primary "stress food" was carbs - starches or sweets.

Now I find comfort in certain foods but for different reasons - I love fresh fruits that are cold in the summer because they are refreshing and I enjoy a good hot soup in the winter time to take the edge off the cold smile

Chicken wings, preferably teriyaki. Always turns my day around slightly. Until of course, I have nothing but bones left. Then it's back to the real world. Or another order.

Unfortunately for me something sweet! However, Christin is right any kind of food is great if I break and have a decent meal I feel better afterwards.

Actually, when I'm down or stressed, I don't eat. I drink lots of tea, hot chocolate and coffee instead.

Fried pork chops. home made mac and cheese, and corn on the cob with applesauce is my dinner for bad days.

A scoop of vanilla ice cream sitting on top of either a slice of pound cake or a slice of apple pie.  Years ago when my mother was still around I would have said a slice of her homemade sweet potato pie....yum.

I would say dark chocolate covered nuts or pretzels...

Bakery cake but that isn't easy to come by if a mood comes over me.  I turn to toast - love buttered toast.

Me, too. Especially rye.  Or a plain whole grain with butter and cinnamon.  I think I may have some with breakfast.  The power of suggestion.

I never associate food with anything but flavor . . . that works-out good for me in that I don't ever turn to food because of a mood or event or any manner of life issues - however it doesn't work-out so well when it comes to considering nutrition or calories or fat, etc. The only thing I ever consider regarding food - what does it taste like . . . 'feeling down' or feeling up, 'stressed' or delighted, food never 'comforts' me, it only tastes good or doesn't.

I don't eat a meal when I'm stressed, but I probably would have a mocha almond sundae. I published the recipe not too long ago...it's hard to beat and will cheer up anyone in a snap!

I will have to check your recipe.  Love mocha & almond.
