Curries for sure! I could literally eat curry for England. The hotter the better. Great for the sinuses however, not so great for those around you!!
Such an English answer! Curry has replaced fish 'n' chips as the national dish, hasn't it? LOL!
Didn't realize it was such an English answer! I do eat more eloquent food honestly lol plus I've never been a fish 'n' chip person! Thankyou for the follow.
Joy of Cooking is my kitchen bible. It tells you everything and why....not quite like Good Eats program, but very informative and helpful. Mine is so ragged, I really need a new book!
A must have for me is a standard, wide ranging cookbook, like the Better Homes and Garden cookbook. I have the version that is a 3-ring binder so that pages can even be added to it, if I like.
Since I asked the question, here's my list so far (but I'm looking for new books, hence my question):
--The Professional Chef (the textbook from the Culinary Institute). A great reference for cooking technique and basics.
--Mastering the Art of French Cooking, Julia Child (the definitive english language book on classic French cooking)
--Brilliant Food Tips and Cooking Tricks by David Joachim, Andrew Schloss (a great reference for cooking tips and techniques)
Google is my cookbook, quite honestly. I do have a number of old-fashioned paper cookbooks of different world cuisines for when I need inspiration, but most of the time I'm either cooking from memory, improvising, or looking it up online.
One great cook book i adore is Jamie Oliver 30 minute meals. It was a tv series also which was great to see him prepare 3 course meals in 30 min and so many are fantastic. I love his rustic way of putting together dishes and all his series of books (Jamie does Italy and Spain for eg) are interesting. I have used dishes from the 30 min meals book for different ocassions including dinner parties, and always had great comments.
I didn't know that one, but must get it. I'm a huge Jamie Oliver fan and do have several of his cookbooks.
It is a great book MickiS, especially if you are looking for dishes that can be done quickly.Key in this book is preparation and time saving techniques and tools. You can view the book and recipies online to see what you think before buying.
Thanks for the tip, Suzie, but it's already en route from Amazon!
Better Homes and Gardens checked cookbook. I have three different versions. I have the 1932 version, the 1972 version, and I got the special pink cancer version a few years ago. I had breast cancer and the proceeds went for research. Also the Betty Crocker cookbook.
The New Best Recipe, by Cooks Illustrated magazine, is one of my favorites. Here it is on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/The-New-Best-Reci … mp;sr=8-1. Their "geekie" approach to cooking means they explain why their recipe works the best and why other approaches fail. It's very educational and helps me develop my own recipes as well.
The Silver Spoon, it's pretty much THE book for authentic Italian cuisine.
