What is the best way to cook Tilapia?

Tilapia is a delicious fish. How do you prepare, remove bones and cook this fish?

tilapia is a great farm raised white fish that despite its dark vien along the spine has an excelent light flavor,.... it filets out just like any other fresh water scaled white fish ie; bass, crapie, etc.............. we've been known to bake it, broil it, and of course dredge it in breading and deep fry it,.............. i must admit,.... i order it food service by the case,... i dont have to clean it! ha!........... but it cleans just as i said.

depending on your location its a very good money deal,........ here in the states, farm raised tilapia from luisiana is cheaper than chinese raised catfish and easier on the picky tastes,... and you get the double bonus of buying domestic.

    hope i helped

Take the fish and lay it on a pan. Coat in lemon juice, combine my favorite spices (garlic and herbs, Slap Your Mama), and sprinkle spices on. Put in the oven for the time posted on bag, normally a little longer. And it comes out great each time smile

St. Clair Jack's prep instructions are excellent. When it comes to cooking, though, I prefer steamed or poached (cooked in gently boiling water). If poached, lacing the water with lemon or white wine is excellent.

Here in Brazil, it is often cooked on the BBQ. We have a tilapia farm and when our buyers arrive, we catch a few to eat whilst we work. The Brazilians, split them flat, leaving the scales on. A bit of olive oil and coarse salt. Then it is onto the BBQ. This is normally eaten sitting on the grass under the cashew trees picking the meat out with your fingers. Yes it is messy but boy is it good.
When I prepare it for just my husband and I, I dredge it in cashew flour and fry in olive oil. A wedge of lemon on the table and a bit of mayo.
I try and always soak it for 30 minutes in salt water before cooking. The flavor is improved.

I buy the tilapia filets, so no deboning.  I like it baked with some type of citrus or garlicy marinade. A few weeks ago I made a marinade from lemon juice, garlic salt and some lime slices that worked pretty well.  I've also tried a McCormick spice packet that was wine and hebrs and that came out good also.

Depends on what you are looking for. Tilapia can be fantastic in many ways. I love to wrap it in foil (filets) with some marinade, a few onion rings and tomato on top and grill it. It also tastes great coated in bread/parmesan in a pan. Choose whatever you like on the side.

I first tasted Tilapia in Tanzania, East Africa, where it lives wild in Lake Victoria.
The locals would bite bits of the head off, swill it around to get the flavour and meat off, then spit out the bones!   I thoroughly respect their culture and would never criticize it, but I could never make myself eat it this way!
However, it was a beautiful fish.  I hope the Lake is not suffering from modern environmental problems.

Coat the fish with breadcrumbs.  Heat the pan with a bit of olive oil and put the breaded fish in the pan.  Cook on each side about 3-4 minutes until done, and then salt and pepper to taste.

My favorite way is to cook it on the grill. I wrap it in aluminum foil along with fresh dill and other herbs as well as a few fresh green beans. Drizzle with a little olive oil and cook on grill until done.
