While working in media sales, I was always on the lookout for new businesses to start their advertising campaign with my company. I stumbled across a new barbeque restaurant that specialized in pickled hot peppers. I had made several sales calls, trying my best to lure the owner into placing his advertising with me, but could not close the deal.
My wife who is a school teacher would be my traveling companion during her summer break. It was always a joy to have her accompany me. I pulled into the parking lot of the barbeque restaurant and told my wife that today was the day I was going to close the deal with the owner. I walked into the kitchen area and asked the owner what I could do to wrap this transaction up. With his kitchen help present the owner said, "If you can pop this entire habanero pepper in your mouth and swallow it then I will sign the contract today." Well, I followed his request and got the contract signed. However, in the process I honestly thought I was having a heart attack because of the most shocking heat I had ever tasted.
When I got back to the car my wife was concerned that I was going to pass out. We sat there for quite awhile, as I attempted to catch my breath. Needless to say, I will never eat one of those nasty peppers again.
