I just LOVE the food questions :)
So, what did I eat during one typical week back when I was doing my exchange program in Japan. These are simple popular dishes that the mother of my host family prepared to her children and me!
- Karee Raisu (could also spell it as Curry Rice or rice curry, but it's so typically Japanese - and not Indian, although that's where the recipe is from - that it really deserves its butchered katakana spelling)
- Gratin. A kind of a French-inspired potato and cheese dish which is like dauphinoise potatoes with lots of cheese on top.
- Takeaway sushi. Whenever my host mother was too busy to cook for her family, she would just bring home takeaway sushi neatly packed in plastic boxes. The Japanese version of bringing home fast food meal (we also got that every once in a while)
- "Burger", a minced meat patty cooked inside aluminum foil. Don't remember the garniture though..
-Sukiyaki. A hot stew in middle of the table where everybody cooks their meat as they wish.
