What is the most unusual cake you have baked and was it well-received?

I have an orange cake that I make with fresh oranges, orange peel and juice that most people absolutely adore. It's unusual, it's very light and refreshing.  I want to try something different again - something unusual, but that people would still mostly enjoy.  Zucchini cakes are cool, but those have been done a lot around here smile

What are some good ideas for an out of the ordinary cake that is not so bizarre people won't eat it?

I make a Canolli Cake and I never thought it was unusual or special until I got over 3000 hits on my recipe.  It is very easy to make and delicious.

We made actual canoli once w my  Sicilian former father-in-law smile  He said the dough used to be formed around broom sticks! He also once bought me a dozen canoli for my birthday when my former husband was in Viet N (PS Don't eat more than 3 at time)

I made a chocolate cake with a basket-weave frosting.  I covered it with handmade marzipan strawberries and bumblebees.  The marzipan has an almond taste which accompanied the chocolate nicely.  It was very pretty and people didn't want to eat the decorations until they tasted them.

I posted a recipe here on H.P.  (Tomato Sauce Cake).  Sounds gross, and only got 594 views, 2 comments, and no comments from anyone who might have tried making it.
However, i made it on several occasions and served it to guests without telling them the name of the cake, and they loved it.
It is one of those recipes (like a carrot cake) that tastes better the next day than it does if served warm after baking.

My mom used to make my dad a graham cracker cake in a square pan with butter creme frosting for his birthday every year.  It was his favorite.  The recipe used to be on the Nabisco graham cracker box, but hasn't been on it for years.  I found a recipe on google a while back and made a graham cracker cake for my husband.  Everyone seemed to like it, but it does taste a little "old fashioned" if you know what I mean.
