What are your favorite toppings on hotdogs, if you eat hotdogs?

What do you like to put on your hotdogs?  Personally, I love them loaded up with everything, but if I do not have everything, then I must at least have chopped onions. Thank you for answering.

I love chopped onions, sauerkraut, and mustard on my hotdogs. That's my favorite way to enjoy them. So delicious! I also enjoy chili and shredded cheese occasionally.

I have to have onion, mustard and sweet coleslaw. I don't have hot dogs often but if I do they have to be good. I also boil them twice to remove all preservatives I can and it doesn't hurt the taste, in fact you can do that like the day before a cook out or meal and then just grill them to get them hot and it has that great grilled flavor without all the danger! (or just pop them under the broiler if you are lazy like me!)

Oh, yes, I forgot about the sweet coleslaw! What an awesome idea to boil them ahead of time prior to grilling. Yes, I do the broiler thing quite often lol. I will try this next time!

It really is a good idea and I think they taste great just like that but everyone else likes a little burn on them, I mean grill. lol

Yes, lol...I will try them your way with the pre-boiling then grilling. It is a really good idea. Thanks for sharing it!

I go for one of two ways:  the traditional mustard, chili and onions . .  or mayo and tomatoes.  Oh, wait . . chili and slaw is good, too!  Dang, I want a hot dog now!!

I don't eat meat, but I sometimes get the St. Ives veggie dogs, or the "Tofu Pups" when I can find them....it's a rare thing for me, but I like mustard, relish, catsup and melted cheese.

That's great, DzyMsLizzy, the veggie dogs are great, especially with those toppings! I have never had "Tofu Pups" ...Thank you for answering.

I don't eat much hotdogs nowadays, but when I used to, I just like ketchup on them and that's all.  I like to taste the beef (or turkey, or chicken) dog.

Hi jaydawg808, alright, so you are a meat kind of person and do not want to cover up the flavor with all that other stuff ... I get that!  Awesome, thank you for answering!

I like chili, cheese and onions with my hotdogs. My second choice is sauerkraut and spicy hot mustard. Plain ketchup isn't bad either; hard to say, it depends on my mood.

Usually just mayo and ketchup, sometimes with chopped onions.  But from time to time I tossed some carmelized bell peppers on there, mmmmm.

Faith Reaperposted 10 years agoin reply to this

Hello cvanthus,  How interesting about the carmelized bell peppers!  That sounds awesome indeed!  I love onions and ketchup, but skip the mayo on a hotdog, but on hamburgers I love it.  Have a great day!

Hi Faith, I love hot dogs!  I don't eat them a lot, but when I do I usually add ketchup and mustard.
I also love a hot dog with sauerkraut...or relish.  If the place where I purchase one offers fried onions, I go for that too!
Great question and now I am hungry for a hot dog! God bless, Sparklea

PS: Years ago I was with a friend at Atlantic City, New Jersey enjoying the boardwalk.
We both purchased a delicious hot dog.  Before my friend could get the first bite, a seagull swooped down and took the WHOLE hot dog in his beak and flew off.  She was so mad, she said a few unrepeatable words.  I couldn't help but laugh!

Hi Sparklea, I know, I am getting hungry for one too!  All of those toppings are great for sure.  LOL, thank you for sharing that story about the seagull swooping down and taking your friend's hotdog ... Oh, my, guess it loved hotdogs too!!! LOL

I sometimes add different toppings just to add some variety, but my two favorite combinations are ketchup / onions and ketchup / sauerkraut.

My favorite hot dog toppings are mayo, tomatoes, black olives and hot peppers. I also do the same toppings with subs that have meat on them.

Cheese and chilly is good, if, you can get the chilly with out the beans. I use sloppy joe mix from a can because I cannot eat the beans. Don't forget to top this one off with lots of.hot peppers. Yum!

Faith Reaperposted 10 years agoin reply to this

Hi suzzy, now I could go for the black olives and hot peppers. Interesting! I do not put mayo on a hotdog though,  mm ly hamburgers. Oh, I love beans in chili but that certainly is a great alternative you havecome up with!  pile them on!!!

I like mine with brown mustard, Swiss cheese and sauerkraut. I'm a sucker for a kraut dog! I'm also picky about the dog. It either has to be Nathan's or Hebrew National.

Faith Reaperposted 10 years agoin reply to this

Hi Sha, yum, now that is a delicious combination there! I do love the Kraut and had not thought about adding Swiss cheese but I do love. I will try these here next time. Yes, a good brand makes all the difference!

bravewarriorposted 10 years agoin reply to this

Faith, I put the cheese down first, then the brown mustard followed by the dog and topped with kraut. Yummy! I also use Nature's Own Sandwich Rounds instead of hot dog buns. They are healthier and only carry 100 calories.

Yummy indeed, Sha! Sounds like you have the perfect hotdog down to a science, especially with the healthier Nature's Own Sandwich Rounds!

Other than ketchup and mustard, I really love freshly cut onions on top. Whether it's a regular hotdog or a chili dog, you can't really go wrong with onions. After that it would probably be finely cut pickles. Oddly enough, I don't like relish, but if I cut up a pickle slice, it works. It makes no sense. I would probably like other toppings as well, but you can only fit so much on the bun. I often dream of going to Chicago for one of their ridiculously buried hot dogs.

I can't believe how many people put catsup (and mayo!) on a hot dog. That was a no-no where I grew up. But then I don't eat catsup on fries, either.

Hi M. T. Dreamer, yes, I have to at least have onions. Oh, now that you have mentioned it I love hotdog relish!  I would love one day too to try a Chicago dog. Yes, they bury their dogs, so I know I would themthem!

My daughter loves them just as they are or with Ketchup.

My Partner likes them with Onions and Brown Sauce

At work we do a choice of Ketchup, Mustard and Chili. Have one, two or all three toppings. You can even add cheese if you want.

    I them with :
    corn relish
    pepper relish
    zucchini relish
    green tomato relish
    That odd neon green relish
    Pickle relish
    Piccallili (british relish)
But I haven't tried red tomato relish cause I am thinking that is just relish in ketchup. I am not a big fan of relish and ketchup.
