What is a "hundred dollar hamburger"?

Most folks love hamburgers and some will go out of their way to get the best hamburger.

I've heard of this $100 hamburger, Phyllis. I believe it's at a restaurant in NYC? It's sounds ridiculous but some people who can (or can't!) afford it will buy it just for the novelty. I don't remember what it's made of but it contains some choice stuff. I wouldn't buy it, though. smile

I forgot to add that the phrase "hundred dollar hamburger" is a slang term for a particular group. Do you know what that group might be and why they use that phrase?

I only know since I joined the Civil Air Patrol -- It began as an excuse for general aviators to take a flight - usually a flight to another not too-far distant airport to eat in the restaurant or cafe and then return to the home airport. They say $100 was the cost of fueling and renting the plane when the slang term was put into use, but I bet today it would be a "$500 hamburger" at least.

I don't know that I'll take flying lessons, but we can ride in WWII planes at air shows. Much fun!

Hi Patty. My mother took flying lessons when she was 68 years old and loved it.  She once had to land on one wheel, guided in by a guy in the watch tower.  You are spot on about the hamburger.
