What is the one food item you would not give up even though you know it may not be healthy?

For me, that would be a cheese / mushroom / bacon burger, which I make myself and put tomato, onion and mayo (or ranch dressing) on it.

Being an ole Southern gal who was raised on sweet tea, I could never give that up!  I know I consume way too much sugar, but I could never drink unsweetened tea!    I also have a terrible sweet tooth, and just love to bake cookies and cakes.

My son-on-law is from Louisiana and LOVES his sweet tea. I love to bake cookies, too, Mary.

Mine would be mild Mexican cheese dip. I make it myself with fresh diced tomatoes in summer and though I don't have it often I just can't seem to give it up. I have to have bacon gravy with fresh summer tomatoes at least once a year too! Sometimes twice.

Hot dogs and sauerkraut. I know they're deadly for ya but I don't care! I've cut back on lots of other stuff that's bad for me but I can't quit them!

That is one of the things I fix for myself when I am eating alone. No one else in my family like it much. For me it is a 'comfort food', my parents loved it.

Cream gravy! Even though I'm vegan, and now make this with chickpea flour, almond milk, and Earth Balance, it's still really unhealthy in terms of the amount of fat and extra calories it adds to whatever I'm pouring it over. So bad, but so, SO good.

I guess, Lisa, you are just a good ol' Gal from down home !  I love cream gravy - over biscuits is yummy. We always call it 'milk gravy', my Dad called it 'Sop', he was a lumberjack for years and that's what they called their milk gravy.

You'd be guessing wrong, Phyllis. I was born in NYC, and raised in LA, and never even heard of cream gravy until I was in my 30s. I thought it was disgusting, at first! But I came to love it, like many alien things I've encountered here in Texas.

The giant Strawberry cheese cake slices sold at publix. Life for me when I eat one of those is perfect.

Popcorn!  I could give up a lot of other things such as sugary foods, but I could never give up the buttery, salty taste of popcorn.  I know some people would rather have something sweet when they want a snack.  That has never been the case for me.  When I feel like a snack I want something salty and I have to have popcorn.  The brand I really like is Pop Secret with Butter.  I know the butter is not great for me, but I think this snack is probably better for me than something with sugar.

I like to make my own popcorn and add butter, black pepper and garlic pepper - no salt. Sometimes I add other savory or chives.

The hardest food for me to give up is  BREAD .It's a cultural thing ,in Uruguay since you are a toddler you learn to go to the bakery early every morning with your parent or grandparent to get the bread for the day. It is almost impossible to meet a person from Uruguay who doesn't eat bread with his meal , whatever it is.

I so understand that, mio cid. In our family, since I can remember, bread is a staple and I am so used to never being out of bread that I do not even consider it unhealthy.

It would have to be eggs Phyllis. They can be used and eaten in so many way. Two out of every three of my breakfasts would involve eggs, either scrambled, boiled, poached, an omelette etc. Even when we go to town, I have a favourite coffee shop that does great "eggs benedict". I jut can't resist. Besides, I have my own hens...so homegrown eggs are best.

I love eggs, too, Jodah. The health officials go back and forth on whether or not eggs are healthy or harmful. I think it depends on each individual (person, not egg LOL). Omelets are my fave.

That would have to be chocolate. I am a devout chocoholic!

I'm also a bit too 'addicted' to nachos--vegetarian style--but the whole reason for eating nachos is the cheese, and that's a lot of extra calories from fat...and I guess the chips aren't so great, either.

    LOL

Ah haha, I love all those things. I have read that dark chocolate is better for us than milk chocolate.
