Alternative ways to deal with stroppy shop assistants inappropriate comments
local tesco tills. 19Nov'10: before 2.30pm uk time. Asked for bag (not realising I was going to get this comment from one!). As I struggled to open it I pointed outmy struggle. She just said "If you took your glove off you'd frame."
stunned. I muttered "yeh, well it's not coming off!" -it's keeping circulation going after a botch operation. I wasn't going to excuse it. I nearly said "If you wasn't such a fat lazy old bag you might offer to help!!!", anyway I didn't -this time, if she says it next time when there's no other quick way out of tesco, then she gets it!!
I was annoyed because she sat there so smuggly. And set to the cue that had built up of old washer-women! You see they think they know everything.. -I got out of earshot at that point. I even left an item out of the bag until I'd paid she didn'tbother to point it out or anything. I am a regular there but feel they are taking me for granted abit -roll on the computerised tills is all i can say!
Don't get yourself uptight about this, it's a waste of time getting into arguments with people who have chips on their shoulders because they're in the wrong job. Just send Tesco's Customer Service an email, they will sort it out. I have arthritic hands and I ask the till girls in Tesco's and Sainsbury's to open the bags for me, I only had a problem once, in a Sainsbury's, sent the email, nice as pie afterwards.
Well this person likely makes minimum wage, so I figure there's not a whole lot I can say to ruin her already crummy life.
One approach could be not to allow the grumpy person to actually get on your nerves. Easier said than done I know but it can be achieved. Just take deep breaths, stay calm and save your breath. Don't waste it on somebody who obviously doesn't deserve it.
Another approach which usually works like a charm is to be extra nice to that person to the point where it grates on them.
