You Can Cook Eggs in the Microwave!

You can safely make eggs in the microwave until you learn to use a real stove. Practice on your own time with the Easy Bake Oven until you are ready for fire. Let's not complicate things. Hairspray is very flammable, so let's save the chemistry lesson for later and stick with the nuker.

Cooking is an important skill that can be learned. If you want to keep your husband happy - nothing works better than a home cooked meal. When my husband and I were dating I was hanging out at his house one afternoon. He left for a short time and it just so happened that the door bell rang. I peeked through the curtain to see one of his old girl friends standing on the porch with a gift! What luck!

I couldn't wait to answer the door but I composed myself and tried to stop smiling like a Cheshire Cat. I opened the door, smiled sweetly and enjoyed the look of confustion that was all over her pretty face.

"Ummm, I brought Dave some cookies," she stuttered. She gripped the tin as if she was thinking about keeping it.

"Thanks!" I said with enthusiasm as I took the tin from her. "I love cookies!"

I was eating them when Dave got home. "Your old girlfriend..the blond... made me cookies," I said trying not to laugh. "My cookies are way better than hers," I said still chewing.

Dave was real surprised too! He had that stuck, sorta sick look on his face. The bottom line is - make sure you can out cook the competition because apparently guys are keeping score on this one. Guys should be able to cook too - nothing is more appealing than a dude in a Chef's hat.

There are several products available to cook eggs in the microwave but my favorite two (tried and true!) are the egg poacher and omelet maker by Nordic Ware. My 12 year old successfully uses these products so I am confident anyone over the age of 12 can do this.

Poached Eggs

Poached eggs used to be quite tedious to make. Typically they are cooked by carefully sliding raw eggs into simmering water and cooking until the egg white solidified. This method can be messy and difficult unless you are an accomplished cook.

Now, with the Nordic Ware Egg Poacher anyone can make perfect poached eggs!

Poached eggs are used to make sexy dishes such as Eggs Benedict, Eggs Florentine or Eggs Sardou. You can buy packaged Hollandaise Sauce and simply top a toasted English Muffin with Ham or Spinach and voila! You will appear to be a culinary genius.

Microwave Omelet

The Omelet originated in France and it was a "pancake of eggs." Raw eggs are beaten lightly and then cooked in a thin layer, stuffed with meats, vegetables or cheese and then folded. Typically an Omelet pan is required with lots of practice to make the perfect omelet.

With the Nordic Ware Omelet Pan anyone, even my 12 year old daughter, can make a perfect omelet in two minutes or less. Simply mix eggs, water and your favorite ingredients and you will have a beautiful dish that tastes delicious in a matter of minutes. This is a fabulous fall back recipe if you burn dinner. You can always find some kind of cheese or meat to accompany eggs.

Toast and Eggs!

You can be proud of yourselves today Real Housewives. With a little practice, you should now be able to make a complete meal for your poppa's. Breakfast isn't just morning food anymore - this is an accomplishment. You can now be prepared to serve a meal no matter what time of day with staples such as bread and eggs that can be topped with almost anything. For non cooks this can make even you, look like you know what the hell you are doing in the kitchen.

Housewives, at the end of the day, men want to be nurtured, loved and cooked for. Eating is a need as well as a desire to be satisfied. If you can cook, it is a huge asset. Many men do take this factor into consideration when they are looking for "the real deal."

For now, if you have unexpected company or you're late from the hair dresser, you will have at least one meal that can be prepared at any time of day. Offer your guest a cup of coffee and whip up a gormet meal in minutes.

Next week we will be working with fire so please be sure to have a fire extinguisher on hand!

Be the best housewife....

I'm so glad I read this Hub! You have written a great Hub on cooking eggs. I'm very particular about my eggs and how they are cooked. These products you mention look like they would work great. Too ad I can't click on one and order it! I know a lot of other readers will, though.

I voted this Hub UP. Thanks for sharing how to cook eggs in the microwave. BTW: I make a great lemon meringue pie in the microwave. No one believes it. I wrote a Hub about that.

Awesome hub! When I was young and we got a microwave my brother blew up an egg inside of it and after that, I never bothered with eggs in the microwave again. These look excellent. Great photos! Outstanding!

Hi Tammy! Eggs were not an item you could cook in the microwave when we first got them. No one figured out how yet! LOL Hey which came first - the microwave or the microwave egg? haha

OH, my, you have outdone yourself on this one, girl. So funny and yet helpful, too! Your pics are so pretty too. I love the plates and all the garnish. And I love that you used Simone's expressions; I just read that hub yesterday. So, so cool. I love this hub. Gotta share it!

Kelly.....Well of COURSE you would have to write this! I mean, what the heck are we suppose to serve with all that toast??? Thanks.........good breakfast!! UP++

Only you Kelly could write a hub in such a way that the reader finds it completely entertaining.

This is a wonderful production and your "leading lady", Simone Smith is perfect for the role. Wherever did you find those great photos? I predict a "golden hub award" is in store.

The "incredible, edible egg" is full of protein. A whopping 6 grams in one large egg. Thy are also "nutrient dense" - full of vitamins such as vitamin A, E C and even B. A great energy booster too.

Your own photos are very inviting and professional looking. May an older hubber such as myself stop by for an omelet some morning? :) Up and sharing!

Same as Tammy I blew the Microwave at the office and my Boss was mad. Lucky I was able to eat the residuals. This was a much needed hub. I love omeletes and jalapenos, so count me in for the party. You are so lucky Dave, you never now man! Nice looking Simone!

I love anything that is quick and easy. Omelets are my favorite, but I have never cooked them in the microwave. I will have to get an omelet pan.

Great description of the ex-girlfriend with the tin of cookies. LOL Also, thanks for linking my salsa hub. I can't make an omelet without salsa!

Votes and shares!

Hi Susan! I do LOVE salsa on eggs - eggs are kinda blah all alone! I can't wait to go to Mexico in December because they have the best egg dish...and they serve salsa for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

I'm going to attempt your salsa very soon...the tomatoes around here are almost perfect and I've been canning lately! Thanks for the link!

Haha...Dave and I still laugh about those cookies:) hahaha I ate most of them with great pleasure! Hahaha

I swear I replied to this comment Mary so I hope I'm not being redundant:)

I wanted to check out your lemon meringue pie recipe - it's one of my husbands very favorites! Of course you pop up JUST when I'm getting the knack of making a terrific meringue the hard way:) lol. Better late than never!

Hi Vicki Lynn and wow what a compliment! Thank you!

Oh as soon as I saw Simones hub on Facial expressions - I was laughing my butt off! Omg! I swear that hub is brilliant is so many ways! It was so hard to choose which photos...so funny!

RealHousewife profile image

RealHousewife 4 years ago from St. Louis, MO Author

NOOOO ma'am - there no need for butter in these babies! I know, it's a shock and I bet butter would make it so yummy but I use water....and I loosen them with a spoon edge...it tastes great and I really made those myself in just a couple of minutes. I messed up teo eggs in the poacher because you have to prick the yolk with a fork or it gets too hard...I add 1/2 tsp of water to each egg in the poacher and a couple or three tablespoons to the omelet pan.

Hi Paula! Hey good to see ya!!

Right - that's what I was thinking...toast goes with eggs so I'm helping the ladies build a good inventory that's kind of progressive:) hahahaha!

Thank YOU so much!

Hi VoalCoach!

Ahhh! Simones photos - I am going to link one of her newest hubs! I meant to in the hub itself...duh! Thank you for a reminder! She wrote this hilarious - brilliant really! Hub about facial expressions and offers to let anyone use them if you properly attribute them. So I just laughed so much looking at her pictures - I had to take advantage of it:) lol

Hey - you come on over any day any time - I'll whip you up some coffee and something much better than toast and eggs! We can sit right near that willow tree!

Hi Simone! I know - they really come out perfect - better than I could do in a pan on the stove because I have tried and failed many, many times! I knew I had to show my own photos because I was skeptical when I first bought one of those things...I thought I was probably wasting a few bucks but look! ha! I was shocked they worked that good. Oh and they are so much easier to clean...no sticky pan mess!

Thanks for the photos links too - priceless! hahaha!

ha ha Kelly I love Simone's photos. Her pics made the perfect edition to this fantastic hub. My father used to microwave eggs for us every morning but they were scrambled. Kinda made me sick to my stomach thinking about microwaving eggs now but after reading this I'm considering this option. Voted up and shared Kelley

You're such a HOOT Kelly! Hey kelley!

I did love Simone's pix - oh I was laughing so hard! So was Dave...I had the laptop out while we surfed late night t.v. so once I started getting all hysterical he wanted to see:) haha I so wish I had come up with that idea!

Yeah really these little Nordic ware deals made me love making eggs again! It is so easy - they really come out beautiful and taste better than I could make them on the stove. Last year my daughter made herself omelets before school for breakfast...and I was sold. And they seem pretty healthy since there really isn't any milk, eggs or oil added?

Thank you for commenting and sharing!

haha! That's hilarious TToombs - I knew this guy once and he lived kind of far out of town but would stop by on occasion. Finally one visit - he tells me he has a girlfriend! Such a sweet guy and I said, "that's awesome! Tell me about her?" and he paused thinking and then told me, "well she can carry a wood stove."

hahahaha! So this is the measuring stick with which my husband and I commonly judge with...a good woman can probably carry a wood stove! Ya think?

bahhahahahaha - You totally crack me up!!

Hi Ardie!

Oh thank you! You are so funny - I consider that a gigantic compliment! lol I tell ya, I kept catching myself laughing while I was working on the hub...I so knew you guys would be surprised and cracking UP to see those pictures of Simone! So perfect! ahahhahaha

Thank you so much - I always have to laugh when I read your comments...and in my head I am thinking..."Dear Ardie...!" lol

Kelly, just happened to see your response to Ardie, who I also think about as dear Ardie! You have inspired me, too, to use a pic of Simone. Will be working on a how to get rid of a possum hub soon. I think Simone's expressions--at least one--would be perfect for that!!!! So cool of you to use her photo. Again, very cool hub.

RealHousewife profile image

Thanks Vicki! Oh let me know when you are done with that one too!

I really was shaking my head reading her hub...I also noted I spent a really LONG time scrutinizing each photo...so like I said - it was just so clever on many levels. I can not wait to see what you come up with I am laughing already!!!

Hi Christy...yeah who knew those little plastic things work! I thought I was surely wasting a few dollars when I bought the egg poacher - but I love poached eggs and they are a pain to make in a pan! I was pleasantly surprised!

Yeah Simone cracks me up! So many, many great facial expressions that I'd have NEVER thought to do:) LOL

I love this... I mean... making breakfast is a sure way to keep a man, especially if it is the first time he spends the night. Nothing says run away faster than getting up in the morning and having to take that women out!!! My favorite breakfast food - take a small glass bowl. Scramble an egg in it and microwave for about 40 seconds. Then, toast an enlish muffin. Combine that with your egg and some ham and cheese. It is delicious. I am so glad you are doing this. My cooking would be lost without you! :)

How do you do it, kelly? being informative and yet funny :) I am still learning that aspect in writing (thank-you!!)

I have tested and tested and tested to make my scrambled eggs with cheese with my microwave and have finally mastered the seconds of my microwave :) did not know there was a no-brainer gadget available! Man sure is smart huh ;)

btw, I am curious did ya make those cookies for Dave and outsmart his ex-GF :))

voted up as awesome, interesting and funny!

Good tips RHW! Creative cooking in the microwave is possible for the creative. Let your microwave go down if you have one. Then you'll know how much we have come to rely on one.

Hi Lovedoctor - thank you! The great thing is - you don't even have to be a good cook to make a great dish. I have so many tricks because I've been cooking forever it seems:) lol. My oldest is 23 and I tried to serve soup and sandwich for dinner one night when she was 5 - and she burst into tears and said "this isn't dinner! This is just junk I want dinner!"

I felt so bad! I didn't try to cheat agin after that...she likes a three course meal! Haha!

Hey Ruchia! That is so nice of you to say! Thank you - !

You know I always sweat it before I hit publish! lol

I am a horrible baker! I do not have the patience required for that - I just lied! lol I knew I better figure out how after I tasted her cookies but I still burn them all the time! His favorite too - my mom makes really good cookies though - thank god! haha

RealHousewife profile image

Hi Frog!! That is funny that you say that! My microwave broke many years ago - and my husband bet me that I couldn't live without it. We went without a microwave for about 5 years:) lol I hardly used it to begin with and there was no such thing as a microwave until I was about 12 or 13? I mean for use in homes. When we bought this house 7 years ago - it had a microwave and our kids were so excited! It was hilarious! Finally - microwave popcorn! I still don't really use it all that much - habit. I do use it for all practical purposes though - for instance if I have a busy night and no time...I can cook a whole meal in it in less than 30 minutes! Gotta love it!

Thanks and great to see ya!
