My Mother's Best Peach Cobbler Recipe

My mother's peach cobbler recipe is one of my favorite desserts. Actually, it is my favorite breakfast too. I have even been known to eat it for lunch.

I guess just about everyone believes their mother is the best cook, but mine really is the best. Her peach cobbler simply cannot be beat. I have sampled peach cobbler in restaurants in a few countries and I have never, ever found one as good as my own mother's cobbler. Every time I order it, I wait in great anticipation only to be disappointed. So, I ask myself, why bother. I need to just go home and make my own.

This is one of the easiest recipes you will ever make!

  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 1Cup Milk
  • 1Cup Self Rising Flour
  • 1 Small Can Sliced Peaches
  • *4 tbsp. Butter (melted)

Note: If you prefer to use fresh peaches, you will need 4 or 5 peeled peaches and 1/2 cup of water instead of the canned peaches.

  2. Melt: Butter in a small baking dish
  3. Combine: Sugar, Milk and Flour
  4. Pour: Mixture over melted butter

I have to tell you, I have NEVER made Peach Cobbler before in my life, and this was THE EASIEST most sinful thing I have ever made! I prepared the recipe as written here last night, and it was simply marvelous! We ate it hot out of the oven with a couple of scoops of plain vanilla ice cream, and I thought I had died and gone to heaven! If you like cobbler, or just want to try something new... You HAVE to try this recipe - I can assure you won't be disappointed! Mmmmmm!!!.

The first time I've taken my laptop in the kitchen to follow a recipe... and it's AWESOME!!! Easy and delicious Peach Cobbler. Just wanted to make note: I didn't have self-rising flour so I used all-purpose with 1 1/2 tsp baking powder and a little less than a 1/2 tsp salt. Fav, FB, tweeted and lensrolled to Easy Turtle Cupcakes. Thanks so much. :D

@anonymous: LOL! Yes, I am absolutely certain we use include the syrup when we use canned peaches. However, when I make the cobbler with fresh peaches, I use water instead.

GameHelp 3 years ago

This looks and sounds delicious, thanks for posting it.

anonymous 3 years ago

Are you SURE you also put the peach syrup? I seem to recall an old recipe I had that did not ask for the syrup... I also believe that it was 8 oz of butter--an entire stick. I know, I also thought it was too much butter, but it worked every time! I used to make this recipe all the time, the result is absolutely fantastic.

Hi I am from Anderson,SC.I am 51 and this is the recipe I grew up making.Everyone on my mothers side of the family made this all the time.Someone always had one on the table.I recently made one in blackberries for my son in laws birthday. It is his most requested thing .That and the ooey gooey butter cake.I actually have a peach cobbler in the oven as I am typing. It is the most simplest recipes and can be made so versatile. We all love them. And I agree it is very hard to beat.

@anonymous: jaxiegirl, there are actually a couple of things that might cause that and as you indicated the length of baking time could be one. I do bake my cobbler for 45 min. However, I am actually more inclined to believe it may have more to do with the placement of your cobbler in the oven. A cobbler needs to be center of your oven. If the cobbler is placed to close to the heating element, the edges will cook faster, appear to be done, but leaving the center not completely cooked. You will want a more even and thorough baking. Also, I do put my peaches on the top. They will settle throughout the mixture instead of being the "foundation" of the cobbler. Putting the fruit first also places the mixture further away from the heat and could well be creating a barrier for thorough cooking.

anonymous 3 years ago

why does my peach cobbler come out doughy, it doesn't cook all the way threw, I put the peaches on the bottom does that make a difference, how long do you bake it...help please

This brings back memories! My grandmother used to make peach cobblers for us. She was a great cook!

anonymous 4 years ago

I'm going to try this recipe. My mom made lots of apple cobblers and froze them unbaked in late summer so we had cobblers all year long. Her crust was regular pie crust though and she put the cobblers in foil loaf pans. Yum!

I make this recipe a lot. I use fresh peaches when they're available. If you use fresh peaches, you have to peel them, slice them, then stir them in a bowl of a half of a cup of sugar, then make the rest of the recipe just as you described. I also like to sprinkle the whole thing with a little cinnamon sugar just before baking.

Really wonderful, simple recipe. I made it with fresh peaches, and added only a couple of tablespoons of water instead of a quarter cup. Turned out great. Pouring the batter into the butter is absolutely inspired. (I've heard this makes it a buckle instead of a cobbler -- but call it whatever, this is good stuff.) Thank you!

CCGAL profile image

CCGAL 5 years ago

Sounds yummy, but not like what I think of when I think cobbler. Cobbler in my world is made with either shortcake/biscuit topping, or thick pie crust, both made in a very large, deep baking pan. Cobbler being what you'd make to serve a lot of people without making several pies. No such thing as a small cobbler in my world. Times have changed, though, and we seldom need to feed a bunch of hungry farm or field hands, or big hungry cowboys, so there's never a call (other than maybe a potluck) for the kind of cobbler I grew up with. Your recipe does sound very delicious - I might just give it a try tomorrow.

You stole my husband's recipe! HaHa. This is a really good and easy recipe--I know that for a fact. We made a fresh blueberry cobbler using "my husband's" recipe this weekend. We did not need the extra water even though the berries were fresh. With a squirt of light whipped cream, it was delish!

Blessed today!
