Why You Are Allowed To Have Breakfast For Dinner

I Know!

I give you permission. You don't need it but I offer it anyway. You are allowed to have breakfast for dinner. What I mean by that is that come 5pm, or whatever time you normally eat your evening meal, you can choose to eat traditionally breakfast foods.

I know!

It is breakfast time.

The Rules

While certain foods are traditionally prepared for breakfast, they can also be eaten later in the day.

Examples of traditional breakfast foods are:

  • Pancakes
  • Waffles
  • Cereal
  • French toast
  • Eggs cooked various ways
  • Toast
  • Sausages
  • Bacon

If you have not already considered switching up the meal plan and having these foods for dinner, there are several reasons why you should start doing so.

The Reasons

More Variety

By making breakfast items suitable for dinnertime, you now have more options to choose from when preparing evening meals.

Perhaps your kids are tired of the usual meals you serve. Surprise them with waffles for dinner, and watch them smile!

If you work long hours and then have to cook for your family after the shift ends, your time spent wondering what to make will be greatly reduced.

Convenience

You have been serving up many of the listed breakfast items for years. You are likely proficient in making scrambled eggs.

You won't need to learn a new recipe to incorporate the items into your dinner repertoire. No new skills are needed.

As well, you likely already have the ingredients in your kitchen if they are items you regularly make for breakfast. You don't need to make an extra trip to the grocery store for the items already stocked in your cupboards.

Take A Page From Restaurant Menus

Many restaurants today serve breakfast all day.

At Denny's Restaurant, for example, the French Toast Slam is available all day, seven days a week. The dish consists of french toast, eggs, bacon, and sausages. Go out for dinner and order traditionally breakfast foods. No one will even look twice!

Restaurants are on board, now you can be too!

Jerry Say It's Okay

Remember the character Jerry from the television show Seinfeld?

Jerry had numerous boxes of cereal on the shelf in his on-set kitchen. He even proposed to Jeanie (played by Janeane Garofalo) when he found out she liked cereal as much as he did.

See?! cereal is important!

Health

While some traditional breakfast foods are not the healthiest, foods such as eggs and multi-grain toast have healthy attributes.

Nutritional components of eggs are:

  • High in protein
  • Low in calorie, at 70 to 80 calories each
  • Low in fat

That's right, eating eggs for the dinnertime meal are not an unhealthy decision.

Now on to multi-grain bread used to make toast. The whole grains hold many nutrients, including:

  • Iron
  • Magnesium
  • Niacin

Whole grains, eaten in moderation and combined with exercise and proper diet, may also reduce risk of high cholesterol, diabetes, and heart disease.

There are great reasons to welcome the foods into your life at another meal.

Drum Roll Please...

The benefits to incorporating breakfast-type foods into your dinners are numerous. Aside from many of the meals being easy to make, there are also health benefits associated with some of the foods chosen.

With restaurants and even Seinfeld embracing the concept, you may wish to eat traditional breakfast foods for supper tonight.

Like Buddha did, I only eat one meal a day. I have been doing this for decades. So I do not go by what foods are good for what meals. I eat whatever I want. Now some imagine that my metabolism has slowed down so much I must be fat. Then others imagine that I do not eat enough food so I must be starving to death.

Actually I have stayed the same weight since I was 18. See both the above are right. I do not eat huge amounts of food like Americans who then need to lose weight. But I do not need to. Why? Because my metabolism is slow. So I am like a car that gets great mileage. I am not big on eating dead animals.

My boyfriend is not a huge breakfast for dinner kind of guy but I love it! I love making homemade pancakes and waffles and if I'm in the mood for them I will certainly make them no matter the time of day :-) I like your Jerry reference from Seinfield, I still watch the re-runs, great show! Great hub :)

Pancakes or eggs are delish for dinner! I rarely eat breakfast foods for breakfast (just cereal) so I am a fan of the idea! It's also a great idea if someone had a big lunch. I give this breakfast for dinner and this hub a thumbs up!!:)

Occasionally, we have 'bacon, beans and scramblies' for tea with a side of toast - it's my emergency, go to meal when I'm stuck for what to make..and....I think you should be able to eat French Toast at any time of day :o)

Voted up etc.

Ha! This is oh so true! I usually eat very lightly for breakfast as I am never too hungry in the morning. Waffles for dinner suits me just fine - with some fried chicken - yummy. Cereal is so quick and easy; it's often on my dinner menu!

Hally, I have had the same problem. The food sits in my stomach and it hasn't properly digested. Breakfast can be great for dinnertime on so many levels!

Aha another thing we have in common Patti! Thanks for all your support with my writing, take care.

I'd rather have something lighter for dinner, like cereal, rather than a big heavy steak. It's sometimes hard for me to sleep after eating a traditional dinner.

I hardly ever eat breakfast but eating breakfast food at dinner is one of my favorite things to do.
