This man ought to be in jail.

    Right now.

This can't be good news for Democrats and their hopes of retaining the Senate.

New York Times reporter Raymond Hernandez is reporting this evening that Dick Blumenthal, the Connecticut AG and likely Democrat nominee for to fill Dodd's seat in the Senate, has lied about his Vietnam service.

    It sounds pretty simple.

He says he went. The paper says he didn't

“We have learned something important since the days that I served in Vietnam,” Mr. Blumenthal said to the group gathered in Norwalk in March 2008. “And you exemplify it. Whatever we think about the war, whatever we call it — Afghanistan or Iraq — we owe our military men and women unconditional support.”

There was one problem: Mr. Blumenthal, a Democrat who is now running for the United States Senate, never served in Vietnam. He obtained at least five military deferments from 1965 to 1970 and took repeated steps that enabled him to avoid going to war, according to records.

Blumenthal was presumed to be riding to an easy victory over whichever GOP candidate emerged, but now we're guessing that's in doubt. Maybe we'll see a Senator Linda McMahon or Senator Peter Schiff yet.

Blumenthal is part of the activist school of AGs, having taken on popular fights against big finance, most recently the ratings agencies.

I saw this on MSNBC today. Wow! He admits that he "misspoke," and he apologized. Apparently, he "misspoke" quite a few times!

Look at the time I posted - and you posted. We were obviously preparing a post on the same topic at the same time - you finished 3 minutes before I did.

Okay man. I thought maybe the left was ignoring it.

        Good man.

No doubt, I heard it on CNN earlier today and they carefully never mentioned he was a Democrat, if that isn't an example of partisan tip-toeing, I don't know what is.  Glad the NYT's was actually on the ball and the story wasn't snuffed, perhaps they are getting just a tad concerned about the direction of the politics of the day -- otherwise, they have before, and could easily have now, just buried the story.

This is the opening sentence in the CNN story by Jack Caffferty.

"The Democrats may soon wish they had a different horse in the race for the Connecticut senate seat being vacated by Chris Dodd."

        and it continues..

"The New York Times has an explosive front page story today about Democratic candidate Richard Blumenthal -...."

Yeah those liberal media sources CNN &The New York Times always cover up for the democrats....

Yeh I heard about that. What a &*#(@^ moron. It's pretty much all I can say.

Hope you'll be here to laugh at the hypocrisy the next time a right-winger hypocrite gets caught with his pants down. Shouldn't be too long now. wink

Oh yeah and CNN sucks. Not so much biased as just 'not there', ya know? Never hear anything interesting on CNN news, and whatever you do hear you never get the full story.

They've already started spin control. He says when he said "in" Nam, he meant "during" that time. This is also an attack by his opponent, some woman. I've already forgot the name, but the Dem party is still backing him as of right now. It could change.

    Anesidoraposted 13 years ago

Sure but there were a few incidents of him forgetting the difference between in and during. Let's say they were honest mistakes. He's still stupid.

Some of these politicians are shameless. Some other guy just got caught in his car fiddling around with a staffer.

Sab Oh - what you said was -  'some other guy'.

What UW said was - "And the right-leaning people here make such a deal about Republican's caught in a lie .."

The truth is -  "Indiana Republican Rep. Mark Souder announced his resignation today after confirming an affair with a female aide."

Sab Oh - UW nailed it and you want to skip over it. Souter is an ultra-conservative religous representative of the GOP and you left that out.

Yeah, I was trying to hide it by mentioning it. Don't get your partisan panties in so much of a bunch that you go off the deep end.

Lying, cheating, and being stupid seem to be truly bipartisan afflictions to far too many politicians.

As far as sex scandals go the dems have some blockbusters but, at least in terms of the most recent ones, the Republicans are way ahead in volume.
