A senior member of the Catholci Church in Ireland says he would not report any priest to the police - even if that priest told him he had raped children.

I don't think he can if the priest tells him in the confessional box.
Like it or hate it, that's the way the confessional works. If you are catholic, you can tell a priest anything in the confessional, even that you are a serial killer, and the priest cannot do anything about it. Its a fundamental part of the church - they won't change it.

Any priest guilty of paedophilia should not only be removed from their job, they should be jailed and the key should be thrown away.
They are just the same as every other scum paedophile on this planet and we don't have room for them.

Come the revolution, line them all up and shoot them.

IzzyM thanks for your comments - in Ireland - there is no Mandatory Reporting of child rape - so its does not matter whether you are in the confessional box or not - any person can conceal the rape of a child and it is not a criminal offence to do so - The Catholci Church have used their power and influence in the Irish Republic to ensure that Mandatory Reporting is not introduced sad

Concealing child rape should be a criminal offence, just as concealing all crimes should be a criminal offence.  I personally don't think that you should be able to confess to serial crimes and then the priest then does not report it, but the very least that the priest should do is to tell the confessor to go and give themselves into the authorities.  There are serious safety issues at stake here, and I do not know how any human can live with themselves if they know someone is harming children or anyone and that they have not done anything to stop it happening.

Really? That's a Law that definitely needs changing then! I'm actually researching along similar lines at the moment, and what I am learning is shocking and explosive. Paedophilia is a more rife than we know, and a lot of it is being deliberately hidden, on British soil where Mandatory reporting is compulsory.

It shouldn't surprise anyone if the boss isn't prepared to deal with it... Why would we expect the workers to change by coming clean? hmm
It's all too easy to avoid isn't it?
The problem is far greater than is reported by isolated parties, but then that's why the problem exists. hmm

Why do church officials get a free ride?  If a common citizen hid this knowledge they would be breaking the law in America or in many other countries.  It's about time something is done to stop these religious perverts from molesting the children.

Another example of the power and corruption of the Catholic church in our society!
