One of my hubs, http://hubpages.com/hub/relationshipswork has been marked as a duplicate!  This was advice given to me from my Aunt when my ex-husband and I first got married as well as common sense.  I asked for it to be reviewed, but I am quite put out!  I don't copy other people's work.   Also, why do they keep offering more tags for articles that already are considered to have "too many tags" ???  Seems silly!

It happens to everyone, myself included. If someone copies your stuff after you publish it, it can trigger the warning. A lot of my writing has been copied and even translated/copied into other languages -- just take it as a compliment, because it's not usually worth getting too worked up over. I tend to only pursue these things when someone's making money from it, but even then, I might just say live and let live, depending on how personal the content was to me. Just ask for the warning and/or penalty to be removed and don't worry too much about the rest.

Who or what has flagged your hub Nicole?? It must be a mistake or a very weird fluke. I say, "NAW" too.

It is not about copying other people's work, it is about whether or not that content is already published on the internet:

    http://ezinearticles.com/?Get-Your-Rela … id=1396687

According to ezine articles, this was published by Arno Verburg.

So, either you are also Arno Verburg or he/she has stolen your Aunt's advice smile

    Either way, it is duplicated.

Mark, can you share the link to the site that checks for stuff like this? I used to have one for reference, but I lost all of the info on my computer about a week ago. I can't even remember the name of the site that checks for duplicate content...is it copyscape or something like that?

Aren't we somewhat protected here with our material in that it's dated or something??

Like relache said, taking a sentence or two and putting it into google is usually fairly effective, just remember to put it in quotes <--Example

Copyscape does a really good job too, because it catches similarities between two articles, where using google will not.

Once I wrote an article starting with a quote at 30-word length and got a duplicate advice. So the software screening can be over-sensitive. Don't lose sleep over it.

how to remove this software warning?

All you need to do is copy a section of the text from the Hub in question, and then paste it into a Google search box.

Web pages that then match the same content will be listed.

OMG!  That person almost copied my article WORD for WORD!?!  Why?  I obviously wrote my article first, I ... Oh, I am so angry.  Thanks for your advice, guys, this seems like a case of outright plagiarism, though!

I just went and changed my first paragraph and it still says that mine is a duplicate.  I didn't change the one on ezine.  So why would it still be duplicate if they aren't duplicates anymore?  BTW I can't find the message that I wrote--is there a way to get a search for these forums?  Sorry that was off topic.

      Hi Lady Guinevere:

You can click the number of posts just below your avatar on any forum thread and it will take you to a list of all your forum posts, but I believe you're referring to this thread.

If you've revised the hub and it's still showing duplicates, you can use the button on the hub to request a manual review, but just changing one paragraph probably won't do it.

It takes some time for the duplicate content checker to re-evaluate a hub, it's not instantaneous.  We're working on some improvements to the system that will eventually allow us to alert authors of original content when their content has been copied elsewhere ... stay tuned.

Okay, I contacted Mr. Arno Verburg in his comments section and I contacted ezinearticles.com about this situation.  As far as I can tell, Mr. Verburg 100% copied my article and posted it as his own.  The material here is "duplicate" only in so much as it has been plagiarized.  I don't mean to be a freak, Maddie, (this has never happened to me before, as far as I know,) but what do I do now?

I don't think you're being a freak at all.  I've had my own hubs plagiarized, so I do know how it feels.  What you probably will need to do is file a DMCA with EZineArticles.  I took a quick look around their site and couldn't actually find their procedure for filing a copyright complaint, so unless someone else has the inside scoop, I guess you'll have to wait for them to answer your email.

Thank-you, so much, Maddie.  (***Nicole hits the reload button on her e-mail inbox again***)  I'm awaiting their reply with bated breath.  Thanks, (really, THANKS,) for everyone who helped out with this and spotted the problem for me, I never thought to check and make sure my work wasn't being copied elsewhere.

If a dupe warning shows up on a hub with content you haven't posted elsewhere, you can always email me and I can tell you exactly where it's copied.

Thanks to all those who have given tips about this situation.

Nicole Winter, if you feel strongly enough to go through the effort involved, you could send a notice to the website under the Digital Copyright Millennium Act (DCMA) that published the offending article and they will have to remove it or face penalties. Most websites will err on the side of caution, but beware that if your claim to copyright is invalid, the author that you tried to remove can sue you and I believe that the website can also recoup the costs of investigating and dealing with the issue. I am no expert on the DMCA, but there are a number of sites that offer useful advice if you google the term.

Ezines are reputable I am sure they will act - in fact I thought there approval process included a duplicate content check they slipped up!
Don' tbe sad - be happy it means your content is ranking somewhere in G - that's why it got copied - you are on your way girl :-)

Okay now this is happening too many times to just be a fluke.  I posted a recipe of mine and when it saved it did not say it was a duplicate.  It didn't until the second comment was made.

Your hub on cranberry orange bars is pretty much identical to the this page, and therefore is not original content.

    1. Lady Guinevere profile image67
Lady Guinevereposted 15 years agoin reply to this

      It wasn't that one.

On my DVT one, is the only that I got the conent was duplicated in the other thread, but when I changed the first paragraph it still had duplicate conentent.  I did put in a request to find what it was on the hub and it told me that it would take 72 hours to get back to me on that.  Now that one was my own experience and the only things that I got off the internet was the pictures of the legs and veins.

With your cranberry one. Recipes are not copyrighted. However, the directions are copyrighted and you should put them in your own words.
