Writing hubs is kind of a mystery.  You are never really sure if they are gonna get some hits or not.  Does anyone know how to tell if your hub will end up getting hits by where it lands 24 hours after being written.  I just wrote 2 hubs and they both landed on the third page of google for exact title search and no linking.  I also wrote some hubs that immediately landed on page one for exact title search.  Any ideas on this subject.

Where it lands after 24 hours tells you nothing.  Google likes freshness, so you get a brief burst of attention when you first publish something new, then you'll go into a lull until you find your natural place.

Being able to rank well for an exact title means nothing, except that other people haven't used those exact words. It's not helpful unless that's what people typically type into search engines to find information.  Actually I'd be disappointed if I tried an exact title search and didn't get a first page rank.

You are right - you can't second-guess which Hubs will be most successful, and you don't really find out till months later.  I've always been surprised to find which of my Hubs are ultimately the best money-makers.

Having a Hub turn up on the first page of Google when you are doing an exact title search means nothing.  That's what you would expect.

Having a Hub come up on the first page of Google when you use an extremely common search phrase is more the goal.  Anyone can search for their own Hubs, it's when thousands of people who don't know who you are find your Hub that you get a successful Hub.

You can pray and hope - or you can do keyword research and build backlinks. Choice is yours. smile

Keyword research is a good place to start.

Under "Match Type:" be sure to choose "Exact".

Then you can see exactly how many people are searching for your specific keyword phrase.

Wow, thanks for that URL, that tool is much better than the one in adwords!

This also helps me to understand WHY my best pages are so popular.

One thing I've noticed is that my popular pages ALWAYS rank well for a specific keyword, i.e. 90% of referals from Google are for that keyword. Funnily enough a popular page in an OK niche will usually out-earn one with much higher eCPM in a top niche, because it has much more competition.

Well I title my hubs so that is they are an extremely common search phrase.  Therefore it would be way to easy and a miracle of sorts if these did wind up on the first page of google.  I would hope they are gonna go up from page 3 and not down from page 3.  Guess it takes some more keyword research and some trial and error.

What keyword research were you doing to figure out that they where extremely common search phrases?

What are some of these phrases that you're ranking highly for?

I just try to write the best article I possibly can, as honestly as I can, and hope somehow search engines find it.  Amazingly, sometimes they do.

Eventually Darkside and Relache are going to feel sorry for me and make back links for me to kill time when they are bored. I just know it!

It's unfortunate that you actually picked the two least likely to make backlinks for themselves.
