WordPress SEO question

   Are the plug-ins SEO Ultimate or All-in-One SEO pack worth it?  Is one better than the other?  I don't know how much they REALLY help with monetizing a wordpress blog.
   
   What is your recommendation?

      Yes, I use all in one seo pack and it's worth it. It really does not take much time to install it, and you can set it to auto do whatever you want. So yes, it's worth it.
      
      And yes, I do rank on the front page of google for many words, #1 in fact for many. Get it and it will help, sure can't hurt.

         If it's the one I'm thinking about, I had the usual problem.  It asked me all kinds of questions at the configuration stage, and I had no idea what the answers were - so I uninstalled it.

   Don't forget to change your permalink structure to something like..
   
   /%postname%/%post_id%
   
   I usually use the last part to protect myself if I were to ever have a duplicate article title. I've had a lot of success with that structure, so it works well.
   
   If I know that I'll never have a duplicate article title (some of my sites wouldn't have had that due to the... premise) I would just use..
   
   /%postname%

   Just to set the record straight - any SEO pack has nothing to do with monetizing, therefore cannot help with it

   Misha, can you explain?  I thought SEO would get your keywords a bit more visibility which would get more precise google ads which would lead to higher clicks/clickthroughs?  Is that inaccurate?

      I think what Misha is trying to say is that there is a lot more to making money off blogs or websites than just ranking high. You need to know what key words to use, where to place your ads, what type of ads or sponsors to use and so on. Just ranking high does nothing in itself, it's a combination of many things.

         Close, but not exactly what I meant.
         
         SEO plugins will help you to rank higher and therefore to get more traffic. Whether you monetize this traffic and how exactly you monetize it if you do is altogether different story.

   Origin, do I add the %post... On every post in the SEO blocks?  There is a section for 'title' 'description' 'keywords'. I am not sure what to type in those on each and every post.

      You don't do that for each and every post. I'm assuming your running your own wordpress installation with your own domain? If you go to your administration area in there, you'll find an area that says "Permalinks". You'll see an option for "custom" and to the right of it, it will be a blank spot where you can copy and paste your new URL format into there.

   If your running multiple sites ; thesis incorporates all such functions beautifully into the framework in its stock configuration and is also editable at the post by post level

   I use %year%/%month%/%postname%
   
   Not sure if it's the best way to go about it but I rank for some good terms, and it seems to work out okay!
