Could you manage on a daily basis without carrying a handbag?

Carine Roitfeld the glamorous editor of French Vogue is known never to carry a handbag.  And no I have never seen pictures of her with a briefcase, holdall, platic bag.  So I'm curious - does she have someone following her carrying everything?  I've had a tiny Lulu Guiness bag for a wedding but on a day to day basis, I would really struggle without keys, notbook, mobile, sat nav etc etc.

Pockets are more than enough for keys and a few cards.

If the outfit I'm wearing has pockets, my keys and wallet fit into both and I'm good to go.

I would rather not carry a bag.  If it's just me, I all I need is my id, my money, my keys, and my chapstick, all of which I can carry in my pockets. If I have the kids, which I almost always do, then I must carry something. The simple repy is yes, I, personally, can go without a purse or handbag of any kind but most of the time it is impractical.

I cannot manage without a purse of somekind.  I have too much stuff I need to carry around to be able to fit it all in my pockets.  It's funny, a few years ago everything I needed could be fit into a pocket or two.

I can do with my jeans with pockets! It depends where I am going, although I always go with minimal loads.

I have a large bag and a small one - carry the small one everywhere = leave the large one in the car mostly.  Have to have my camera, snacks, ipod, survival things, you know.

I never carry my purse/bag in anywhere. It stays in my car and I only take my wallet out when I get out of the car. Otherwise everything I wear usually has pockets and that's where things land.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.  And I'm a Coach addict.  Most of the time I use one of my smaller-sized purses. I have a pretty large handbag that is great for traveling and using as a carry-on on a plane.  I have a swing pack that I like to travel with because it lies flat across the body.

However, there are times when I don't want to be bothered and carry just a wristlet - big enough for keys, ID, debit card, and phone!

Yes but how do you fit a netbook or laptop?? What about umbrellas, water bottles, sunglasses, sunscreen?!

I have to have my sunscreen!

I always carry a small purse that crosses my body from the shoulder. I'm always hands-free. Can't stand the bulk of things in my jean pocket. Gotta carry my change purse, cell, pen, chapstick, extra keys, etc. at all times.

I've taken to using pockets, fanny packs, or just carrying my wallet with me instead of a purse.  It seems to hurt my arms and back lugging it around - and it allows me more free hands for the leash and putting on my helmets!

I need a bag even a tote bag. Cargo pants would suffice as well. But I feel more secure carrying a bag on a daily basis.

Can't say I have ever carried a handbag, except when the wife gives me hers to carry while she empties my wallet in the store..

I have to publicly confess that - after a lifetime of laughing at man-bags - I have one. And it is indispensable !  all that junk we have to carry around from a huge bunch of keys to the phone, here I must have a camera on hand at all times, cash, cards, tissues (as this is not supplied in any 'public' toilet except McDonalds which is the only reason to visit) and sunglasses and glasses - and occasional other stuff!!!

To ensure I don't lose it or leave it somewhre with EVERYTHING in it 'she' has put it around my neck with a long strap. The assault on the sensibilities of my manhood by carrying a handbag I deal with by considering that I can beat the living s@*t out of anyone who wants to make an issue of it big_smile

I love a purse, so I would not be without one. It is a rare occasion when I might just carry a wallet and cell phone. I have even been known to put my big purse in my trunk on those occasions when I am carrying a small bag.  Just in case I forgot something i needed.

I can't do without a purse just to carry needed medical supplies which would not fit in a pocket.

Occasionally I go purseless. I have to have pockets for the cell, cc, and keys though. I usually always have my purse in the car, and then just carry the bare minimum once I get out of the car.

It's amazing how much you can bring with you on a phone these days - music, books, email, games, calendar, coupons, directions, contact list, shopping lists, etc.. At one time all of these would be carried in my purse seperately.

Nope.  I may downsize when sightseeing or shopping, but I always have to carry a purse -- wallet, cellphone, keys, camera, day planner, more keys, makeup . . .

No.  First, my left hand needs that shoulder bag strap because it doesn't know what to do if I walk and don't have a shoulder bag for it to hang onto.  Second, I like the look of a shoulder bag.  Then, too, I need to "be ready for anything", but also to be ready for anybody else's "anything" as well (that's probably because I'm conditioned to have "mother thinking".

Besides, in 1985 I tied scooting out of the house in the morning, just to drop off my son at school - and wouldn't you know it... I was stopped by the police and asked for my license!  Since then I've only tried going for three walks without a purse.  It was sort of OK, but I didn't like worrying about stuff falling out of my pockets.  So, since I was a kid in school, I've only been without a purse those for times.   hmm

I've carried a handbag practically all my life. I'd feel 'armless' without one. If i dont carry a handbag, i may end up having body balancing problems lol

I never carry a purse, or bag of any kind. That said, I also don't really wear dresses, skirts, or slacks and the pockets of my blue jeans easily hold my keys (only three on the ring), debit cards and driver's license. I very rarely carry cash, but that's what the other side pocket is for. Occasionally I carry my phone with me, which is an old dinosaur so I usually just carry it in my hand...but it does still fit in my back pocket, I just don't like the big bulge. The only bag I've ever carried was a diaper bag, which I'm fixing to start carrying again in a couple of months.

I hate carrying a bag but I don't have an option of hiring an assistant so I hold a small bag to put only the necessary items such as wallet, keys, breathmints and phone. Or I'll wear a dress with big pockets :-)

I can and I do! I never thought that would be the case, but I have somehow managed to wean myself off of purses. Now I just carry a lipstick, cash and a credit card in a pocket. It's funny, for a while I kept thinking I had misplaced my purse (until I realized I hadn't brought one with me!) Now I am used to traveling light!
