Real-life Thrush Cures?

   I just finished reading a handful of hubs about thrush and have even shot off an email to a friend whose son had thrush.  But I thought I'd also ask here in the forum, "Do any of you have real-life cures for thrush?"  My son now has it for the third time in five months, and I am breastfeeding and also have an infection.  Eek!  Please help!!

   No, But I think I would try Yogurt. Because Yogurt is good for yeast infections and I am pretty sure that Thrush is a form of yeast? If you are breast feeding you could eat some yogurt. ~ Just a thought.

   I used Gentian Violet and it worked like a charm.  You can get it from your pharmacist without a prescription and it is not expensive. I had already tried a prescription from the doc before gentian violet and it did not work.  This product works.  the only downside is the color and that you have to be careful not to stain clothes with it.  Check it out.

   Any yoghurt that has Acidolpylis in it
   
   Plus eliminate all sugar products from your diet,at least until you see some improvement.

   Fresh natural yoghurt applied to the area should do it. If the thrush is 'down there' add some conde's crystals to the bath water (potassium permanganate). It turns the water purple and leaves a brown stain on the skin, but its great for nappy rash in babies too.

   just to be clear, gentian violet is for the baby's mouth.  you apply it to the inside of his lips or wherever the thrush is in his mouth with a cotton swab.  im telling you it works wonders.

   Gentian violet should do the trick.
   According to wikipedia:
   "It is generally considered safe for use on children and breastfeeding  mothers. It has even been applied to the mouth and lips of premature infants, and has a long history of safe use".
   
   There is some mention about cancer causing in lab rats after being fed animals that had been fed gentian violet, but I'd ignore that. Sounds like someone had too much time on their hands and a budget to spend.

   nowadays, scientists will tell you everything can give you cancer!  you will only use it a couple of times on your baby, i wouldnt worry about it, but if you are concerned, ask your doctor or pharmacist.  iused it on my son after antibiotics didnt work (used them 3 separate times).  Finally after one treatment with gentian violet, the thrush cleared up.  I actually saw results after one day.  i hope this helps and i hope it works for you.  take care

   just a quick side note:  wear breastpads after breastfeeding your son if you have treated him with gentian violet because it will stain the inside of his mouth and turn your nipples purple for awhile.  People will probably be curious as to why he has a purple mouth, but its actually kind of cute.

    Appreciated  Izzy's post on Condys Crystals and found this lil website to further support the use of the crystals-to avoid staining etc. It has simple steps ,which I found very helpful.

    Another vote for gentian violet.  Both my girls had thrush and took a round of Nystatin that did nothing for their thrush.  Changed over to gentian violet and it cleared right up!
