How does a Christian respond in such a situation? The doctor has declared that the clinical diagnosis is stage IV cancer. All cancer is incurable according to the doctor. The options that he presents are hospitalization and treatment, surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. You know someone who went that route. After the treatment, cancer was found in other organs and the treatment was recommended again. Then the patient was declared terminal and died.
Some people say that everyone is different. That is true because some people prefer to stand with God and refuse the chemical treatment and suffering. The doctor says if the treatment is refused, the cancer will spread anyhow. There is no guarantee on the length of life or its quality.
As a Christian, if you were faced with such a choice- believing the doctor or the Word of God concerning healing, would you take the treatment or refuse it? Why or why not?
Hi friend aoiffe379
One should believe in the Healing of the Creator - God Allah YHWH; that does not mean that one should refuse treatment from the doctors; what the doctors suggest is also a facility provided by the Creator- God Allah YHWH. If He had not made such things; who could doctors do anything. So one should be praying to God and also do the treatment as suggested by the doctors.
Thanks

For me this would not be a religious issue.
I wouldn't advise another on this situation.
Stage 4 -- Oh s--- I've been real close with several such situations.
MY young first wife took radiation treatments ... Cancer went into and out of remission and she took Chemo.
About one day a week that she felt almost normal. This was when Chemo was first being experimented with (1969). Treatment was hell back then and nothing for nausea.
Cancer went back into remission and out again She decided to not go through that again.
This is a personal issue for the one with the condition to choose. Everyone else should support that persons decision "Period" no matter they own thoughts are. ..BUT.. do not be afraid to openly express your feelings but do not PUSH your opinion upon the patient.
When all is all said and done we don't want to be holding onto guilt or remorse for acting like a Jert.
It the person chooses to not seek treatment they are going to need everyones POSITIVE suport "AND NO PITTY".
The person is saying no treatment; the family is saying treatment and consider it as 'doing what is right'. Even nowadays, the chemo is not right and is still sickening. The person is anemic; and the chemo kills good and bad cells. The doctor said doing nothing will kill good cells too.
God does not get angry for our seeking medical attention. if this is the only reason for their refusing treatment... I take back everything that I said earlier. Though it is still their decision to make.
To not go to the Dr for a broken arm or to stitch your arm back on after or going to the dentist it is severed ,or going to the dentist would be no different than going for a more life threatening complication.
But if their reason is because they have weighed the pro & cons and decides that the quality of life expected is not worth the pain and suffering, then everyone should respectfully accept the persons decision, and not make their life more difficult than it already must be.
Just give them love and support.
That is the way that I would and did try to be.
Drs know what is likely to happen, what usually happens. They can suggest treatment plans hoping for certain results, but he cannot simply find an expiration date on your foot.
Being a Christian and believing for a miracle doesn't mean you have to ignore the Dr. does it?
In my own current war with cancer, I utilize both. After weighing the medical options, I pray and make my choices for treatment. My Drs have no problem with my praying, and God has provided me with Drs. I will make the decision as to when my quality of life needs to be the guiding factor.
My Drs know that I am part of the team - I have asked them to consult with other specific speacialists, I present ideas for treatment, and I make decisions about my care. I am at peace with bringing Drs and my faith to the table, too.

The doctor said that there is no guarantee. Either it is the suggested treatment- hospital, antibiotic, surgery, chemo and radiation or nothing at all. One person from the family followed the surgery route. All the lymph nodes were removed. She got edema in her hand and leg as well as her lungs. The swelling in her kidney and liver made her look pregnant. She was in pain and depressed; and had to take oxycontin for pain.Paying for medication bwcame a hardship.God allowed her to see her daughter marry; and then she code blue a few times.her son wanted her revived each time. After he left, she got Extreme Unction then was allowed to leave.
Everyone is different and family members are busy now. There is no guarantee they will be there in times of need- especially with money for tratment and medication. Thanks for sharing
If I were a christian, it wouldn't make much difference.
The same Creator created every human being.
So, I would take the word of the one of created every human being, before I took the word of a human being experimenting with possibilities.
Oddly, I have experience in this conversation, as my mum was diagnosed with Type A cancer some years back. Believe it or not, after a year of solid -i mean solid- pain, suffering, radiation/chemo and the morphine squad aka hospice care, I left my job, drove 450 miles and spent what they said were her last two weeks on earth. After a huge battle with them, my dad and the local preachers & priests, she let me pray with her. 48 hours later, she physically asked the hospice people to leave.
Two years passed, after much traveling and enjoying life, she thought she caught a cold and went to the hospital. They said there was so much radiation and liver damage from the chemo & pills, that her body was giving out. She died eight weeks later, cancer free.
So, when it comes down to it, there is no choice, really, it is his word or nothing.
These are exactly the type of hard questions that weed out the hypocrisy and contradictions of the believer. They will stand tall with their scriptures held on high damning science and the scientist for their notions, potions, and general evil ways and then secretly go visit the same people who they've damned to an eternity of hellfire so they may have their ailments treated, as their gods have clearly failed them in that regard.
It would be funny if it wasn't so tragic.
I have a choice, I can eat the food my wife cooked for my dinner this evening or I can wait for god to supply me with sustenance....
Guess which I would do.....
When deeply faithful amputees start to grow new limbs, it will be time to take seriously the claims that prayer can cure cancer.
Hi friends
Getting medical treatment from doctors is in no way against belief in the Creator-God Allah YHWH. Sometimes the Religionists become wrongly obsessed with unbalanced concepts and resort to practices which are never a part of the Religion revealed by the Creator-God Allah YHWH.
Thanks

And the skeptics are almost always out of balance. They may just see in the mirror they have with them.
So, the religionists are obsessed with unbalanced concepts and the skeptics are always out of balance, then the only one who is stable, logical and rational is... ?
The only one who is not on the extremes and is on norms; believer in the truthful, rational and peaceful teachings of Quran/Islam/Muhammad
Thanks
I am back after three weeks of no internet service. We got hit by lightning! One question I have is why doctors feel or seem to declare that their method of treatment is the only one; and if you do not take it, you are doing nothing. Recently I met a cancer patient who had to stop her chemotherapy because the treatment caused her sugar level to skyrocket. She has to follow a prescribed diet before she can resume the chemo treatment. What this says to me is that doctors were aware of the diabetes but their focus was the cancer. Thus they ignored a root cause/factor. Of course their job is to pump in the chemo concoction and burn up the cells and body while ignoring everything else. Are underlying factors like diabetes, hypertension and heart disease taken into consideration in the treatment of a cancer patient? Is diet a factor in treatment with chemo or is the primary goal to kill of good and bad cells with poison? Some people want treatment but not the poison!

A family member suffering from cancer is electing not to undergo chemotherapy. Is this silly? Many other members of the family do not believe in homeopathy and natural medicine for chronic illness. Should they even have a say or is the patient's election the only consideration?
