    The island of truth

The peaceful sea was spread across the vicinity,

& the calm ambience soothed the soul.

The residents never uttered a lie,

& the "island of truth" lived upto its name.

    The island was lush green

& the sand greeted the sea.

With the creatures living in peace and harmony,

there were no worries, only glee.

    But one unfortunate day,

    a sailor discovered the island.

    His name was greed

    & he befriended the inhabitants.

He praised the islanders for their beautiful paradise

& mixed up with the people, their culture.

But Mr. Greed proved the relevance of his name

& showed the people the materialistic version of happiness.

All the islanders were sucked up by the greed,

none cared for the poor mother nature, its wellness!!

Truth was on the verge of extinction,

people forged, lied every now & then.

The power of money having white washed their brains,

the sense of jealousy and competition ruled them.

Trees refused the birds for shelter,

even denied fruits to the creatures.

Mother nature was bleeding on the thorns of greed,

selfishness prevailed, truth was in ruptures.

    But finally, one historic day,

    God lent some mercy.

A hurricane lashed on to the island

& caused destruction in a flurry.

The old wise men of the island

had long ago predicted this end.

They looked upon the heavens with their watery eyes,

& named the hurricane as wisdom.

    Wisdom demolished the island,

there wasn't a trace of life left.

    Now years after the incidence,

a fresh innocent seed has sprouted on the island.

Is this the reincarnation of truth ?

This sounds like what happened when the pilgrims came to America and destroyed the Native Americans. Sounds like what humanity has done since the beginning of time when finding a new culture of people.

I like this poem alot. Greed has always been with humanity (since the fall in the garden).

I would like to see you write more about this innocent seed.

I was born, raised, educated, and worked in these United States of America for the past 79 years. I have seen exactley the same thing happen right here in America as happened on this Island and still happening today. Yep, you guessed it, GREED, has infected the way of life here. Greed has destroyed the American Family. Greed has destroyed the belief in God. How many young people do you see in church these days?  Not many. Anyway, GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU WHO READING THIS.

Yes, greed is one of the 7 deadly sins. An idea: a short fictional story, greed vs genorosity. Both could be characters on the island.

The ruin of a nation begins in the home of its' people.
