Is page rank based partly on hubpages itself or just your hub?

I have an SEO book, and have a question about page rank. I have a hub ranked P3. Is the rank partly based on hubpages itself and its popularity and page rank? I know it is based on many unknown things but might that be one of them? Thanks.

Are you speaking in terms of google ranking? At that point, it depends on a lot of variables--mostly to do with tagging and the first paragraph or two of your article if you leave the "Summary Text" field blank/default.

Otherwise, besides the newly added page load speed in google's algorithm, it's mostly based on who clicks when your page is searched for. If it's included in a list of results, but no one clicks, for the most part it's bumped down further.

I guess you are talking about PageRank as you mention you have a P3 Page. PageRank has nothing to do with any 'on page' factor. A page that is not indexed can have PageRank purely based on Google’s knowledge of links that point to the page. Furthermore if you deliberately de-index a page it will retain its original PageRank, proof positive that PageRank has nothing to do with 'on page' factors.

The PageRank you are seeing is the result of the all links that point to the page. These could be from HubPages or any other external page that links to it.

Hope that helps, however PageRank isn’t something to get overly concerned with, it has little influence in search engine rankings.

Listen Brakel, don't let yourself get confused by some of the posts above. psycheskinner and Peter made some good posts though.

      - "I know it is based on many unknown things"

No, the pagerank is not based on many unknown things. It is solely based on the number and quality of backlinks your page has. However, Google's algorithm that ranks your pages in SERPs is based on many unknown factors, but some of these factors are a common knowledge.

      - "I have a hub ranked P3. Is the rank partly based on hubpages itself and its popularity and page rank?"

your page rank is based on backlinks that come from Hubpages and other sources. So, to summerize what I said your P3 can be due to both internal and external backlinks.

Hope I didn't confuse you any further.

Yes, since you get filtered down PR from the Hubpages domain, and other Hubs.

As others said though, PR is page specific, so it is all down to the quality of other pages linking to your Hub, internal or external.

Ixxy has given some important information already. Let me add that initially, hubs tend to do rather well in the search engines, which has to do with the general page ranking of HubPages as a whole.

I thin Ixxy's info is off.  Page rank is derived almoat entirely from the number of websites linking to your page, and he page rank fo those sites.  Any other factors have only a small influence.

There is no such thing as a websites PageRank as a whole, PageRank is calculated on a page by page basis, websites don’t have PageRank web pages do.

The reason that hubs rank well has nothing to do with the PageRank found anywhere on hubpages.com its a result of the authority of the site, two entirely different things.

Thanks for clarifying this. Terminology aside, it seems then that HubPages' authority as a whole has some bearing on how hubs do in the search engines, which has been my impression and what I was trying to convey.

Although no one (except a few folks at Google) know exactly what goes into the PageRank algorithm, it is generally known that inbound links play the biggest role. This includes internal (from other HP pages) and external (from other website) links. The higher the PR of the page or site linking to your hub, the more weight it carries.

Since HP is a PR6 site, I would assume that other HP pages that link to your individual hub play a role in the ultimate PR.
