What is the purpose of the question section? I used to be able to go there and find deep and thought-provoking questions that would stimulate a hub, which usually turn out to be some of my top rated ones. Now, all I find are requests for pictures of half-naked women or something similar. I have to search really hard to find those quality questions again.
LOL, that is the best questions I've read in a while! Sometimes the questions are so crazy, I don't even understand what they are trying to ask!
It used to be called "Hub Requests" but once it got changed to "Answers" it sort of degenerated into a poor man's version of Yahoo answers. Sadly, HubPages has seemed unconcerned with the dumbing down of this area.
Whew. Glad I'm not the only one. It seems that the quality of that area really plummeted. I've been really disappointed there and a comment was made by a friend of mine who just joined HubPages. She was surprised at the lack of "professionalism" found in that area and others for a community of writers.
Thanks, relache.
I wondered about that. There is the flag option, but most of this stuff is just dumb, not inappropriate.
Maybe a rating system for the questions as well as the answers would help. Then we could vote the junk down to invisibility.
Hi, Pcunix
I can see your point – that there is something missing in that area.
You can flag a question and someone from Hubpages will remove it from the screen. If a question is just dumb, then you can flag it based on the flagging option of low quality. There are five options of flagging as follows:
1. Adult - Sexually explicit content
2. Spam - An advertisement or an overly self-serving request
3. Low Quality - The question is nonsensical, calls for very short answers, or is not likely to be of general interest
4. Miscategorized - The request has been assigned to an inappropriate category
5. Other reasons such as: the question violates the HubPages Terms of Use in other ways other than those listed above.
As for the answers, just vote it down until it disappears from the screen.
The problem which we have is that we are not flagging the questions and neither are we voting the answers up or down.
And Pcunix, I was very pleased with you for answering my question the other day. Thank you.
If you take the time to read the flagging options on questions, you'll see that "low quality" covers a LOT of the dumb stuff, and that there are a good number of questions that are just self-serving (aka spam).
Yes, it does. But as I said, I'd rather vote as we do on the answers.
That might be useless. If HP is largely composed of people who are not particularly discriminating, the "up" votes may be applied in great numbers to ridiculous questions.
However, my impression is that it works well for answers, so it might work for questions.
Is there some negative I am not seeing?
I think it was called Q&A when I first joined - I didn't know it used to be "Hub Requests" - I wish they'd change it back to that. It's an excellent title.
Even if you flag them, a lot of the stupid questions still remain.
Another concern is people asking questions that should really be on the hubs that they found the site through. I get questions asked to me where the person signed up just to ask a question because they didn't scroll down all the way to find the comments section, or because they thought that the questions box was something different. Sometimes I can't even answer the question because they use pronouns, like it, where I don't know what 'it' is. Then the person never comes back to do any other business besides ask that one questions, which to me falsifies statistics on the site of how many hubbers there are.
And, yes, there have been many questions and concerns brought up about the answers section, but HubPages doesn't seem to concerned about it.
I just flag low quality questions in hopes they're deleted. Some go and some stay.

When I look at the questions section of hubpages I see pages and pages of silly questions. A lot of the time, when I click on "unanswered" or "latest" I see that the same person has asked ten or so questions in a row. I suspect that in most cases this is because of the fact that...

I occasionally hub-hop, but most of the time I come away from it feeling like I haven't really accomplished much as far as "improving HubPages" goes.So tonight, just for laughs, I decided to type "mesothelioma" into the search box at the top of HubPages' homepage. I then sorted...

This forum is a place for you to post hubs that you think are clearly of low quality and need flagging. Committed hubbers should follow this forum and check these hubs posted for quality when they have the time. If a hub has been clearly copied (for example from a PDF file that the plagiarism...

There are two newly discovered hubbers who have only posted raw translations by using online translating tool, what they did was merely copy and paste the results without doing any further modifications. From the comments they replied, you can tell they don't really understand much English. Even...

I haven't seen a thread on this (feel free to post the link if there is).Hubpages will soon be giving ad share for questions. From the Hubpages weekly newsletter:While some of these Questions are winning prize money, all of them will soon be able to bring additional ad revenue to the people who...

Having hubhopped for a wee while, I came across the usual dross. Low quality, spun content, copied content. Of the ones I hopped through, 7 (no avatar, profile info etc) had just joined and thrown up hasty hubs that were basic SEO stuff - written just for a couple of backlinks. Then there was this...
