"We are fighting a war against al-Qaeda and its extremist allies, who directly threaten the United States, Afghanistan, and our friends and allies around the world," Gates said.

And they all live in caves in Afghanistan eating crickets?  They just sit there waiting for the United States Military to come and kill them?  Yep they are all in Afghanistan.

The war in Afghanistan isn't about the Taliban or Al Qaeda.  Because those Organizations are Worldwide.  It's a movement of Belief not a country.

And as soon as any native puts down their gun they look exactly like the other citizens of the country.

So the real war is against peace and people.

The United States keeps making this crap up to rile it's Citizens so they can feed the Military Industrial Machine more of it's citizens labors.  Make the rich richer at all costs.

It's one thing to have a political bias, it's another thing to take it to ridiculous, even suicidal extremes.

"the real war is against peace and people"  roll

And it's all the bankers fault, right?

      yikes~

To see things clearly is not 'extreme' - the empty heads that follow blindly are ridiculous and suicidal in the way of lemmings.

The United States Government goes out of it's way to harass anyone who doesn't fit their War For Profit economic model. If you read the history of Osama Bin Laden... at one point the United States Government was funding him to fight for them... then they just abandon him and the cause.

Every day in this world there are crazy people doing crazy things for a belief system.

One guy in NY does not make a movement.

In 2004 16,137 people were homicide victims in the United States.  That's 3x the number that died in 911. And that happens EVERY YEAR!  150,000 approximate murders since 911!

Should we be "At War" with every American Citizen because someone killed those people?

Should we spend $4 Billion a month because one whack job decided to take it upon himself to try and make himself look like a Martyr.

If the United States would stay the hell out of other countries business we would be a lot safer.

Keep beating a dog and he'll eventually bite you when he gets the chance.

The whole war is a scam on the American People and is a tool of the Wealthy to get richer.

This is about right.  The wars outside are to create a state of fear so that population can be controlled inside the country.  The artificial divisions between people inside the country ensure sufficient chaos that nobody except those controlling things get anything done.

The opposition of two sets of faulty political camps ensures that the population is arguing about Bull**it instead of real issues.

Not at all - I just feel that a little knowledge and real experience might add some reason and sense to your mountain of pointless posts.  We have to wade through them all to try to talk to each other, especially on threads where you are most vociferous and say the least.

Gotta agree with Mike on this one.

Eisenhower warned us...Smedley Butler told us.

And yet it goes on. Don't you know, in most "alternative" sites, it's called al-CIAda, not al-queda....

Military/Industrial/Service Complex. Huge and worldwide and getting huger.

It's going to collapse from its own weight....and the weight of all the innocent dead babies.

Yes, I hate war, too - 3 of my children have served in the military with 2 of them in the near east.  I hate it.

At the same time, the extremist muslims have made it abundantly clear that there is not room on the face of the earth for both them and those that will not be enslaved by them.  They will kill and kill, and make slaves of those that they don't kill, until there is nothing left but them.

Towards that end, they brought war to us and to much of the rest of the world.  Saying "Please go away and leave us alone" won't work for this pus filled blight on earth's green face - they will kill until they get what they want, which is total conversion to their way of life.

My own hopeful prediction is that eventually the rest of the world, those wanting peace and to live their own lives, will remove the blight of muslim extremists if not the entire muslim religion.  It may take a decade, it may take 50 years, or it may take 100 years, but the war brought by the insanity of the Taliban and their ilk will be ended by more civilized folk.  If instead we allow our civilized concepts of right and wrong to prevent us from carrying on a hated war, we are lost and will either die or be enslaved.  There is no other choice.

But surely it is clear that they now think the same way ?  Do you think that this current situation existed before the involvement in the middle east for oil ?

The first real modern clashes with Islam came with the forced establishment of Israel within the then Palestine, because the Palestinians were too weak to prevent it.  Giving the Jews a homeland after the atrocities of the Fascists may have been a reasonable thing to do, but the geo-political reasoning was still more about fatally dividing the middle east where most of the world oil is.

Muslim's are just different from you, it is not possible to judge who is better or worse but it is possible to live together in some semblance of peace - if the US backed off and mostly went home.

How can you translate that comment as anti-american ?

It is a criticism of a failed aggressive policy by america, among many other failures or damaging policies that the US are currently engaged in, as is the UK and other countries around the world.

If you had even a rudimentary real education you would be able to understand such simple differences. but *yikes* the guys with the white hats MUST be goodies I suppose.

"If you had even a rudimentary real education "

You keep raising this theme. Is there something you want to say directly?

        2. wilderness profile image94
wildernessposted 13 years agoin reply to this

No, they don't think the same way.  They have watched as fewer and fewer people are actually willing to knuckle under to their uncivilized vision of how people should live their lives and the response is violence and death for nonconformists.  The killing of school girls that want an education is the inevitable consequence suffered by those that want more than they "should" have is only one example out many many others.

Our social system is based, however loosely, on the concept of freedom; live as you want to.  The two are in no way compatible.  It is true that the west causes enormous conflict as enslaved peoples see and want what our way of life can offer, and it has made the west a very convenient scapegoat, just as the jews were to Hitler.  We are, however, only a scapegoat - the real problem is that people want to be free and the extremists won't let them.  That is why I rather expect muslims themselves to eventually take up the war against the extremists - not only will it preserve the religion but it will give them a better life, free from the monstrous scourge that Islam can become.

Yes, I think that the country of Israel was the beginning of the real problems, but not for the reason you think.  Israel moved into a barren desert and made it bloom; that society was obviously "better" in some way than the accepted way of life there.  Israel was the first contact for most muslims between west and east, and started the longing for that better way of life.  It took time to develop that desire, and was coupled with continually more contact with the west as they wanted more of western money and goods but is again the root cause of the problem.  Palestine is being used by the extremists as a tool to fight western concepts and foster hatred for the west; were it not for that it would have collapsed long age.

    It all sounds so Chamberlain.

    1. alternate poet profile image66
alternate poetposted 13 years agoin reply to this

Not really, Chamberlain was responding to a threat from a belief system (Fascism) that was not so distant from his own.  Many of the rich and high level politicians viewed Hitlers actions - before the war - as about in line with their own thinking.

The US is not under any direct overwhelming military threat from anyone in the same way as Britain was from Germany, pulling out of places that you have aggressively entered for economic gain is not retreating - it is coming to your senses.

I wasn't referring to us I was referring to you and how you make rationalizations.  Chamberlain didn't want to face that Hitler was a sociopathic megalomaniac and made rationalizations. Just as you are making rationalizations right now about how wars are created. roll
