I prefer writing fiction, however, I'am dubious about publishing it on the web, is it profitable considering the risk of plagiarism? I'm only publishing articles at the moment,( except one short story to test the water), things that I could live with losing. Losing a piece of fiction however, would be devastating for me. Do you think that a strong copyright is needed?
I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm new to publishing on the net.
Fiction generally does not pay well, and it's not because of plagiarism.
You make money on HubPages or your website when someone clicks on an ad. Generally speaking, people won't click on an ad unless they've arrived at your Hub/site becaus they're interested in the subject for some reason - they want a solution to a problem, a service, a product etc.
So, someone who arrives at your Hub about red widgets is interested in red widgets, and is likely to click on ads about red widgets.
Someone who arrives at your Hub to read a story is interested in reading a story. He gets a story, he has no reason to click on ads. Ergo, you make no money.
Thank you for the reply,
I thought that was the likely out come, thanks for confirming it for me.
I think publishing fiction can still be profitable, in the long run, as it can help to get you noticed, and shows more diversity to your portfolio.
Then again, it could it be a hindrance, and put people of your style.
Most of your "paying customers" on HubPages are completely unaware of your portfolio, unless you write a lot of Hubs on closely related topics, and have them prominently interlinked.
Most visitors arrive via Google to ONE Hub, which is on the subject they're interested in, and leave without ever looking at your profile or noticing what else you've written.
You might make money with fiction if you use a teaser opening chapter to sell a novel.

Hi, everyone. Thank you in advance for reading; this is a little long-winded.When I was a kid, I loved writing books. I'd sit at the computer for hours, typing. I knew I was going to be a writer one day. Even my elementary school teacher said I had talent. When I was 22 I got a publishing contract...

Who here is interested in starting a discussion group for those of us caught up in promoting our books? Self-published, indie-published or traditionally published, all authors need to self-promote. Let's share our experience. Let's work together.
