Are blogs within news sites worth it for links?

I've been spending more time looking for places to get backlinks. I noticed that some news sites, once you make an account, also give you a free blog in your profile. Short of like in myspace.

Do links in those blogs give enough clout to be worth it? I know your not ever going to get any direct traffic from them, cause nobody sees them.

But for the few minutes it takes, would it be worth it for the SE point of view?

I have a blog within myspace and it seems to help me.  It is a pr9 site but no follow.  It brings in some traffic.  No follow is not great for seo value however.

My advice to you is find out whether the site is nofollow or dofollow.  What exactly do you want from the outcome?  Traffic or SERP's.

High PR (like many social networking sites) seem to have lots of google love with high pr.

Low pr sites tend to not to generate a great deal of traffic but is good for SERP's.

I tend to do a bit of both - diversity is perhaps the key?  But it is trial and error.

Regardless of what the site is you need "dofollow" links from pages with a decent pagerank.

Well, I get some nice traffic to some of my sites from no follow links. Sometimes you want the link for the traffic, not for anything else. But yes, do follow is better.

Oh I'm just trying to get whatever I can. I prefer to get links for the traffic, and for my other sites that works well. But getting links just to boost your hubs is good too.

I'm seeing mine slowly get higher each time I add links just from comments and so on. I just need more time in the day, lol. tongue

Wow, I must say I'm getting pleasantly surprised about what I'm finding. A lot of sites give you an option to sign up to post comments.

But once you do you find that they also give you your own space with a blog to write with, complete with an editor for putting in links. And yes, they are do follow. smile

Well for one you can try The Miami Herald. Just sign up, then once you do you see that you can make a blog, complete with a blog roll for links.

But I'm finding that you can go to most any newspaper site, join up and then comment with a link. Many of them give you a blog in your profile.

Plus newspaper and news sites always have high PR. I could get hundreds of places to post links I can see that now. Heck join The Times site and you can post links. smile

I am signed up on a few news sites and it does bring in some traffic depending on how often I post. I have left comments in NYT often with a link to a relevant topic and have noticed incoming views. I think it's worth the effort to sign up, you never know, it could lead to a promising lead!

It is best to have links from pages with the same topic as your hub. Also if you reply and con tribute to the blog you will gain traffic.

Yep, they definitely are worth the effort. News sites usually have relatively high authority, and links from them get counted. smile
