What you will do if your close friend is involved in a scandal?
Really, it depends on the scandal, and how close this friend truly is.
I agree with usmcwifey09. If they are a really close friend then they are probably more like family and that's a tight bond but even with family, if the scandal is really criminal, you might want to excersise caution here. Offer support and an open ear but distance yourself from the scandal itself.
Well, I could
(a) shake their hand
(b) laugh at them
(c) ask for more information
(d) sit and listen to how it came about
(e) tell them my view about it
(f) buy them a drink
(g) if a woman - buy them shoes, dress and stockings for next time.
But, overall, I would wait to see what they do first, with regards to me, with regards to their own situation.
Oh great, WHICH one of my friends did WHAT now?
exactly, friendship in true means is not to enjoy all the good moments together, its also to share the troubled things together, and to keep the friend on right track, must have to support him.
It depends, if they are in deep trouble with the police and the scandal is their fault, then support them from a safe distance, if it is something they have been drawn into involuntarily then you may want to lend them more active support and a shoulder to cry on.

Distance cannot fill the void of actually having that person there with you but it can make the heart grow fonder. There's an upside and downside to long distance...
