What is wrong with being cremated? Why is that considered a Pagan burial, and furthermore, where did the whole concept of being buried become a Christian thing to do. Why do Christians have to be buried? Is it the same for Islam, and the Jews?
I don't get it. If your soul goes to heaven, and has already been saved by Jesus Christ, what's the harm in being cremated or donating your body to science?
I don't think it is particuarly considered a pagan burial, is it? Well, I don't know, but I do know that more people are cremated than buried (in the UK). About 70% altogether, I think. Perhaps that just indicates that not many people are religious these days, but personally I can't see what's wrong with it, each to their own, I say.
Hay Intimate How ya doin?
I don't see anything wrong with either.
I think it is a vanity and sanitation issue.
And showing enough respect to the person to not watch the coyotes getting to the body.
To me it seems more proper to be cremated than embalmed?
Hi Sunshine!

You know I was watching the Dark Ages on the History channel, and they mentioned that burning or cremation of the dead was a pagan burial ritual. And it is. But why? How? When did it become illegal, by the eyes of Christian leaders, such as the Catholic Church? And what is the big deal anyways, especially when one considers the Jesus forgiveness scenario?
Many people actually believe that your soul won't go up to heaven if you are cremated. But I thought you soul went immediately up to heaven, anyways.
I am going to have my body cooked and then ground into catfood.
I'm still in love with you, even if you intend to drug homeless kittens with your narcotic-laden remains.
{{{kisses}}}
So wrong on so many levels considering the cat food comment but I likey, likey.
Awww....that is such a cute picture!
You posted sumthin' cute, Ron.
My son studied ancient egypt a couple of years ago at school, when he was 7, and came home to tell me he was going to have me mummified when I died!!
Oh that's too cute. Clever boy you've got there.
My wife and I have discussed this just recently. We would prefer a traditional native american funeral, but the legal ramifications would be quite complex.
I'm not interested burial. Why waste that type of effort on me, after I am dead? Burn and be done with it. Spread the ash somewhere, not that it matters.
Well, that's kind of where I was going. Sit down and wait for the Great Spirit. Trouble is, I'd get hungry and wander back to town. But bodies must be appropriately disposed of.
You actually think you'll be able to realize anything after you're dead? You keep believing that.
Which amazes me, because people cannot be buried in burlap anymore. No our bodies are not allow to recycle themselves naturally into the soil, but are forced to liter the planet of concrete boxes, petrified bodies and formaldehyde. What gives? You bring up a really great point.
Actually, I had a friend die a few years ago and they did just that. Cremation, put the ashes into an old sock with weight attached, and using a fishing pole for sturgeon tossed it far out into his favorite fishing hole.
Kind of neat little ceremony for his close friends and family.
When I die, I do not expect anyone to be at any ceremony. There will be no ceremony. There will be the cremation and the disposal of my ashes. That's it.
Alright, listen, Cags. I will plan your ceremony and we'll all be there virtually....cool? We'll eat chalupas and chocolate milk shakes after.
No Thank you Stimp. Nice offer, but still people wouldn't show up. No need to waste the effort.
I'll come, stimp. Wait - what's a chalupa? Is it good? And I want a vanilla shake, not chocolate. Will there be dancing girls, or would that be inappropriate?
You would need strippers, if you wanted to emulate a part of my history of experience and plenty of them. It wouldn't be an appropriate party otherwise, but however, then again, like I said, there will be no ceremony, so there will be no party after or before.
Come on, Cags, don't be a mouldy old corpse about this.
If we need strippers, then strippers there shall be!
Stimp will take care of it - all you need do is lay there quietly. If you don't want to watch, we'll close the lid - wouldn't want you to rise from the dead, so to speak, during the performance.....
Per Wikipedia: An Americanized version of chalupas are sold in Taco Bell restaurants, filled with ground meat, steak or chicken, (bacon has also been available in limited offers) and topped with cheese, lettuce, sour cream (or Baja sauce) and salsa. This chalupa resembles an American taco inside but is wrapped with deep-fried wheat flat bread.
And I suppose we could have dancing girls.
I have cremated all of the pets who have spent their entires lives with me....with the exception of Ben. I see nothing wrong with it.
They are getting ready to do away with cremation now also, it uses too much energy and adds to global warming...
They are now starting to use an alternative in some countries and even some states in the US, dissolving the body in a caustic solution then flushing the remains into the water system to be recycled....
So when this becomes acceptable on a large scale you may be getting a cup of auntie Mabel when you turn on the tap!!
I'm a registered organ donor. Whatever's left after they take all the good bits: burn, baby, burn.
My mum was buried in a wicker basket/casket in the middle of a forest. She had a Rowan tree planted on the site of her grave. It doesn't have to be cremation to be pagan!
That's pagan? How was that a pagan burial?
Well mainly because she was a pagan and had certain beliefs connected with trees. Also, she wasn't buried on consecrated ground. But your right, it's not the manner of the disposal of a body that makes it pagan but the beliefs that go with it.

I'm curious as to what people prefer to have done with their bodies after they die.I'd guess that burial is still widely preferred by most people but I think cremation is gathering steam. (No pun intended!) (That's a lie; it was intended!)Also, I know cremation has been forbidden by some religions...

What are your thoughts about this subject considering costs, traditions and effects on family members left behind after a parent dies?

My beloved 18 year old cat, Pokey, has almost died. We thought she had passed a few hours ago, but she is still holding on. What a tough day; my cat that I've cherished since I was a toddler is almost gone. Phew.My mother is bringing her to the vets tomorrow morning to be put down because we think...
