How Does This Happen?

How would a spam profile come up on the first page (and second entry) of a Google search for Hubpages.com? I'm baffled. Any Google geeks know the answer?

      Hi rockinjoe

The hub ranks where it does because of a few factors

      1. Even though the page only at the moment shows adds, when it was first crawled, it had the proper density/proximity, to rank where it does.

      2. Before the content was changed, the hubber built his links prior to the crawl. The sites pointing back to his page have been indexed, which now has made his hub seem somewhat as an autority for the term hubpage.com. X amount of links can be gotten very quickly if you are using the proper software.

Link building is less suspicious on other search engines than Google. Also Google doesn't crawl pages that are dynamic in most cases. Indexing can be turned on or off in most cases by website owners..

      4. The hub was optimized properly. Either by accident, or purposely. If one knows how search engines index pages, and what parts of the pages are most revelant, anyone can rank for a given keywords. Even the most profitable ones.

This is not the the most relevant site found by the search engines for the term hubpages.com.
Many people believe that Goole crawls the internet everyday but they don't. Different algorithims are set in place to crawl specific sites at certain times only. Basically speaking, if your website is optimized for adsense correctly, your pages will be crawled more often because it helps advertisers make money.

Hope this clears thing up for you.

What was the search term you used to find the page?

If you were searching for something like 'renerobinson', then there is little competition and this page will soon rank for the term as well.

You are also helping the page to rank by linking to it.

If you search "hubpages.com" that link is on the first page and second entry. And as far as helping the page to rank? It doesn't need my help. It got to second place without me.

Maybe because it is using popular key words?

I don't see how. It's a profile page with links to online pharmaceuticals. The spammer's Hubscore is  13 and he has 0 fans. He's been a HP member for two months. No hubs. Just kinda weird and I'd love to know his secret,  Hubpages may want to delete that profile.

There are a ton load of links pointing to the page, including yours, nothing weird here.

Congrats "ReneRobinson" who ever it is for being in second place. Every Hubber has the right to Link to his Websites in the Profiles, unless he links to a Porn site. So That profile cannot be deleted saying it is a spammer.

None of the top hubbers got in that position. All time was wasted creating hubs on all topics and getting high scores , when this "ReneRobinson" got ranked in Google just because he had a good link to his Valium Drug Site. This is because of the keyword "Valium" he has used and his website which has got links pointing to it from many high ranking or most searched websites.

I am going to write my next hub on this Topic and make millions of dollars. Anyone want to join me. I don't mind giving half a million dollars. (All of You Please Laugh , This was meant to be a Xmas Joke)

It is simply a sampling of Hubpages by Google to provide a best guess on the searchers query.

Keyword density has no bearing on ranking. Surly the rankings that the page currently maintains is dependent on the page and the links as they are now, not when it was first crawled.

How do you know the page was changed? Can you show me, or tell me how to find a copy of the original?

This page is dynamic and the profile page being discussed is dynamic and there doesn’t seem to be any indexing problem. Search engines in general, not just Google, will have difficulties indexing any page regardless whether it is dynamic or not if it is badly coded or uses problematic URLs etc.

You cant rank pages using 'on page' factors alone.

OK, relevance is subjective, however hubpages.com  ranks number on Google, Yahoo and MSN for the search term. What do you mean by 'most relevant'?

Google searches the internet every second of every day looking for links to new pages and updating existing pages. Google has many data centers some of those are used to test tweaks to their algo. The resuts of these data centers may be different to the main results but will never be seen unless you know how to access the data centers.

Google uses an entiely different spider to evaluate a page for adsens ads, this has nothing to do with how your pages rank within the organic results, or how often your page gets indexed.

The page ranks as it does simply because of links.

Sorry if i offended anyone. When i spoke on why the page ranks where it does, i was speaking in terms of it's position, not it's "pagerank". There are no links that google has indexed for this page. Neither has Google given the hubbers page a pagerank. So his links are irrelevant. The phrase hubpages.com was not being "optimized" correctly on the sites that came up in the results. There has been many pages that have had high visibility in the search results, yet have no links pointing out or comming in. Having a degree in computer science and information technology makes search engine research really simple. I don't want a debate about optimization factors, i just want people to follow sound proven techniques when building websites. Keyword density goes hand in hand with linking, wich is used by Google to give pagerank. Google is not the only search engine. There are hundreds of thousands of them. But Google is the one that applies pagerank to their results.  It's not beneficial to me to give you the Holy Grail to the Google algorithm. If i did you'd be on your way to being very rich.  I just offer solid advice on what works, and what matters. Also when i said that this is not the most revelant result for hubpages.com, i was meaning the hubbers page that follows the official hubpages.com. My software tells me everything I need to know about how pages are ranked, not Google or posters. This is the current content for the page.

Thanks Mr.SEO. I definitely appreciate the response. Please don't apologize for answering my question. If anyone else was offended by your response, it wasn't the person who asked the question.  Hubpages is a great website and there are a lot of extremely friendly, talented  and knowledgeable people who frequent the forums. Every once in awhile, you will however, come across a prima donna, who in an attempt to feel special will bully a response to a question. After two years here on the site, you might have guessed I'd be smart enough to know that. I guess I wasn't. Welcome to Hubpages. I look forward to reading your stuff.

And Mr SEO, I too look forward to reading more of your posts.

Selling valium on the Internet is pretty dodgy anyway, so even if this page has a high google ranking, it is pretty sad.  There are many more quality hubs out there to read on this site, especially since this user has never published a hub.
