I'm a newbie to all this, I've posted 1 hub so far and I'm just finishing up my second.
My question is, can I use google images in my blogs. Someone mentioned copyright to me. I've had a look round but frankly I'm finding it a bit confusing.
Has anyone got any suggesions of sites I could visit and what does everyone else do?
I use many of my own photos. The images I do get, I get from photobucket and a few other sites & I ALWAYS credit the photographer.
Jane, a huge number of photos on Photobucket are stolen.
The site publicity used to encourage members to "save their favorite photos" on the site, implying it was OK to collect images you found around the internet. It's only in the very small print that they say, you can't upload photos you don't own.
The result is that millions of people uploaded photos from websites without any regard for copyright, and there's no way to know which is which.
If you use Google images, advanced search, you can select images that have been labeled for commercial reuse. Wikimedia Commons is another popular site for images.
yes i use word to get my pics. Here's more info from one of my hubs

I just wrote a Hub about how to use Flickr to find free images.
You can use google images but you must use the advanced search and filter for commercial use.
You can also use the Advanced Search on Flickr and choose to search for photos that are available for commercial use. Stock.xchng is also a popular site for free photos.
Here is a good hub.

I use this site sometimes. You have to sign up with a free user name and password.

I've found some very good photos on others' hubs, as well as on certain blogs on my blog rolls.
I don't know if that is really legal, but I've heard no complaints, so far.
If fact, my avatar is "stolen"/ borrowed from Google. It may or may not have been copyrighted. There are so many pictures on there that are second or third generation that you can never be sure if it's the original or not.
Wayne, legally you can use any photos that you find on my Hubs - but only if you credit the original photographer. You'll find the photo credits on each of my Hubs. However I'd have to say, it seems a bit rude to let other Hubbers do the work of finding good images so you can ride on their coat tails.
Otherwise, you need to understand that ALL photos on the internet are copyright UNLESS they specifically say otherwise.
I know what you mean about second and third generation photos, and it's unlikely you'll get any complaints because it's so difficult to trace copied images on the net. However, I think that's a poor excuse. It's like saying "It's OK for me to throw all my litter in the street, because everyone else does it" and "it's OK for me to steal if I don't get found out."
If someone copied your whole article and published it elsewhere, you'd probably be upset. Why is it OK to do the same to some poor photographer?
How convenient; not a very good attitude in my opinion.

Has anyone ever run into copyright issues using images from photobucket? I like the selection at photobucket, but it seems like people post a lot of photos they probably do not own. I like using photobucket, but there's this thought in the back of my mind wondering if I've stolen someone's photo...

One of my big problem is, I do basically nothing with pictures and videos. Because I'm not really sure where I can get them. I am more or less talking about pictures, but if their is some hidden secret with videos aside from youtube, that would be great! Also I am sure it is key to give credit?...
