    Hello,

I'm new to hubpages and have been tyring to increase traffic to my site (which is harder than I thought).  I was using Google's Webmaster tool.  It keeps telling me to verify my site.  Yet when I try to do this, it does not work for me. The codes keep appearing on my published site which is not what I want.  How do I do this?  Is it important?  What are the best ways to increase search engine traffic (besides keywords)

You need to own the website to use google webmaster tools. You don't own hubpages so you can't use it.

You can however, use google analytics. Check your affiliate settings in your account section.

Might be more useful to tell her how to do that. As a new hubber i have the same problem and have to say your reply was not that helpful.

And I think your response to her was totally unnecessary and ungrateful. Why don't you take two seconds to Google "how to use Analytics with HubPages." My search came up with tons of information on the subject, including detailed screenshots, etc. The experienced hubbers like WryLilt are here to send you in the right direction, not combat your laziness.

    Contrice and A La Carte,

Just to add on Wrylit's comment, may I suggest you both click on the 'help' word on the top right hand side of the site. This is the FAQ section of Hubpages and many of your questions will be answered within those pages.

This also helps you to familiarize yourself with HubPages and reduces the amount of repeated questions being asked within the forums. For a lot of other questions with answers, you can also search within the forum, you will find many other questions you have also answerable there.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the help everyone.  I did go to the FAQ forum before I asked this question.  Although I found plenty of info on Adsense,  I did not find what I was looking for regarding the Webmaster tool.  Thanks Wrylilt for the link.  I will surely check it out. smile

You can't use Webmaster tools on HubPages as you do not own the site nor have access to the root files.  You can only use them on domains that you yourself own.

I received many of those responses when I first started out on here...as in 'if you read the FAQs'....Not everyone gets what they have posted there and if you need to ask questions still after reading them, I advise asking team@hubpages.com - especially if folks get 'out of hand' by telling you you should be checking the FAQs.  Again, not all of us 'get' what's in there and not sure why but in my case, maybe it's because I'm old and blond! Good luck with your analytical tracking!

Gotta agree there. All the "technical terms" regarding links, ect is way over my head. I really wish there were places to go without having to research what words mean. smile

the best suggestion is to put your question in the search box for hubs. (if the "Help" answers didn't work for you)

If it has been a problem for more than a couple people, or if it is an issue with technical jargon or processes, then the odds are very good that some knowledgeable hubber has written a simplified, or at least step-by-step hub about it.

e.g: "how to use google analytics for hubpages" returned 431 hubs. Not all will answer a particular question, but odds are some will.

("how to use google webmaster tools on hubpages" returned 197 hubs)

contrary to the implications of some poster responses, there are tons of helpful hubbers here.
