As someone who generally writes in the fiction genre, I am looking for some ideas to expand on my writing skills. Any experienced hubbers have some good topics to write on?
While we are on it, does fiction writing have a bad Karma on Hub pages? I was reading through some post and almost got a general sense that maybe this is not a site big on the Fiction? Any thoughts?
What sort of fiction do you write? There are so many sub-categories!
Your second question interests me, Words by Mike. I don't think there's any 'bad karma' regarding fiction; some of the best authors here on HubPages submit Hubs as chapters-mega1 and dohn121 come to mind.
Go for it!
Ask yourself what you know that would be of value to other people, and write about that. Ask yourself, when thinking about my subject, what would people type into a search engine? What product or service might people want to buy?
No bad Karma, but not much money! Other Hubbers may read and enjoy your fiction if you're active on the forums and get to know people, but you won't get many visitors from outside HP.
That's because outside visitors arrive via search engines - and what would people be typing into Google to find your fiction story?
Hubbers don't click on ads. You need outside visitors who are in the mood to buy something - and even if they find your fiction via Google, they're not going to be in the mood to buy. And the ads may not be relevant, anyway.
Personally I think anyone who publishes their novel as a series of Hubs is mad. Publish as an ebook somewhere like Smashbooks, then write 'press releases' and a taster chapter on HP, ezinearticles, Squidoo, and anywhere else you can think of - but don't give away the whole book on a public site.
There is definitely nothing wrong with Fiction on Hubpages. YOur hubscore might drop slightly due to low traffic, but since you wont need do follow links this doesn't matter.
The problem with writing fiction online is that it does not bring traffic, which means you won't earn much money. Despite this it can still provide a great platform to air your work, and there are plenty of Hubbers on here who will provide feedback for your work!
Money: I am not expecting to make money here, would be nice don’t get me wrong, but I see the hubpages as a vehicle for my Writing, as thisisoli stated, a platform.
lorlie6: I am a dark writer by nature. I write suspense, thriller mostly, however and trying to grow as an author. It is very difficult for me to write, “Happy,” I suppose credited to my own observations of humanity or the lack thereof. I am always looking for feedback so feel free to throw it out there if you have an opportunity to read my stuff. I will be checking all your hubs out as well.
Marisa Wright: Thank you too for the wonderful suggestions. I would never publish one of my manuscripts on here, just short stories, trying to expand my writing experience, gain feedback and in general grow in my craft.
Oh let me ask you all. I asked and did not get a response about Accolades. When do these appear on your profile? I was just curious and can’t seem to figure that one out. I think Goals are good, keep one motivated as sometimes motivation can be fleeting.
Thanks again all~ Looking forward to getting to know my fellow Authors’.~ Cheers
Hey Mike-as far as I know, the accolades come when you achieve certain 'milestones' here on HubPages.

Welcome and enjoy the darkness! Actually I am a huge fan of dark fiction-happy doesn't really do it for me either.
I quite enjoy them short mysteries welcome to HubPages, btw!
What you write about as a fiction writer totally depends on what matters to you. So I can't really pipe in on that one. However, I can tell you that there's no bad Karma to writing fiction. Given some time and getting to know people on the forums and through reading hubs, you'll get people to read your stuff. If you aren't trying to sell it to publishers, then I can only assume your purpose is to share it. HP is a decent place for that.
There is no bad karma with writing fiction here. Most of my Hubs are short stories. There's no, or little, money to be earned with such Hubs, but that's okay as long as you're just doing it for fun.
Creative writing can have great entertainment value, and you can get good feedback from other Hubbers, which can, in turn, help to improve your writing skills - if that's something you're looking to do.
I should add: If you publish your work here, it is considered published, and you could, therefore, find it difficult to publish elsewhere where it might be more lucrative.
Hi WordsbyMike - thanks for posting this thread. Fiction is one of my main interests. I have been writing more of it lately and enjoying every minute. I don't get as large an audience for it as I do for my more commercial hubs, but I don't think people are geared for fiction online - when people search usually they're looking for products or advice or info. Entertainment they look for online is music, videos, movies, gossip, celebrity tidbits. I think as people get used to reading hubs they stumble on fiction here and if they like you they come back. I also am always careful to backlink my fiction hubs and I think most of my traffic (other than HubPage followers) comes from friends on Twitter and Facebook and SheToldMe and RedGage. But if you're like me and the joy comes from the writing process and "playing" with your characters, then you will love the freedom we have here to create. Look forward to your fiction! Write On!
Camlo: Thank you for the response. Feedback is always a plus. We are all creative Gods if only in our own intellect.
Shadesbreath: Great advice. I am looking for an agent currently as I do take my writing very serious that being said, I am here to get my work out there. My short stories are a way to do that I think.
Mega 1: I am with ya, as my facebook page dedicated to my Novel is where most of my traffic comes from. I have a wonderful support system of family and friends, so I am blessed there. I would like to build a wider scope of followers, and plan to do so over time! I look forward to reading your stuff as well, as all the great Hubbers I am running into. Feels like a really nice community here. Happy I found it…
Thanks again all
Thank you all again for the letters and words of encouragement, they are very much appreciated. I really am enjoying the Hub thus far and look forward to getting to know you all better. I will be visiting your hubs and try to get a sense of you as well. )

How are you promoting your poetry and fiction writing now that Hubpages is putting most of it on idle?

I'm not sure how I can contribute, I like writing fiction but the only thing I've ever felt confident about was my religious belief but even then, I haven't read the whole bible. I was a cook for years but I still don't feel like an expert. Do you only want people who write about facts. Thank you...

I log on every day, and it seems that I always find negative things popping up in the forums. I am sorry that so many people are struggling on HubPages. From SEO issues to having popular hubs unfeatured for a multitude of reasons, it seems very discouraging for any newcomers. When I first got here...
