A thread I have seen
Buried no indication
so this is for you.
I tried. I'm not a pro at this in fact I just learned about this haiku stuff and thought it was beautiful stuff. So I'm practicing.
I saw a thread that mentioned haiku on it but its buried and doesn't have any indication of it being a haiku thread so I figured I start one that you could all participate in.
For those who don't know what a haiku is, this would be fun. You don't have to be good at it, I'd still love to see those haiku.
A haiku is a short poem of Japanese origin with only three lines
- the first line has 5 syllables, the second has 7 syllables and the last has 5 syllables.
It usually encompasses one idea or emotion with at least a small break in the flow.
So exhausted from
an extended day at work
Sleep is calling me.
I'm not sure, but you might be referring to a post I made quite awhile ago: Hey Poets!
It is about haiku, and trying to make a collection of haiku written by hubbers (and other readers, of course): Home of the Hub Haiku
And, Paraglider's limerick hub: How to Write a Limerick
Thanks for sharing your haiku!
Oh, insomnia
I'm unwillingly awake
Sleep, the elusive
Worker bees can leave
Even drones can fly away
The queen is their slave
One of my favorites, from "Fight Club."
Thank you so much, kpfingaz, for the haiku guidelines!!!!!!!
Kittie sits on floor,
Her gaze looks beyond me,
Branches find their way.
Yeah, keep this thread going and we'll have a nice collection.
My heart beats for you
Deeply in love with your soul
You are desired.
Write about your passion today
share your magic words
become an addict of the hub
have fun fellow hubaholics.........jimmy
OK, here's an offering -
new fallen chestnut
rolls free from its cracked scrotum
red lights in your hair
And one in broad Scots, for Jimmy -
blackies rype the rowan
slitter rid draps faar corbies
howk a mawkit tod
Peace parabolas
Sake of better or verse
O Paraglider!
What fun!

Why are the rules of Haiku not as strictly enforced when written in English? When written in English, the rules of Haiku generally dictate "17 syllables or less" rather than three lines syllabized 5-7-5. Why is this so and what other rules are relaxed when Haiku is written in English?

Hello, Everyone!I am working on proposing a new challenge (which may actually eventually need to be posted in a different forum category, although I'm not sure), and I would like suggestions for a title for it.The idea so far is that it would be geared towards good hubbers who are not seeing the...
