THIS is my hub of my familys' story about the part my father played in the bombing of Darwin...ok it is my hub and so is the description preceding it.......
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
THE following hub link is Lissie's and this hub is based on the premise that a lot of Australians were unaware of the actual event and remain so to this day HOWEVER what is strange is the use of the words that precede the link which are as follows"The Bombing of Darwin & a Family Story Note: Baz Luhrman's movie “ Australia” is due to be released in Australia next week. ..." as these words are from my hub not Lissies....
seems odd how it has happened but somehow the my hub words are being used as the descriptor for Lissie's hub on google.....

So my questions are:
Can this anomaly be changed to reflect only the individuals hub?
How are the tags applied? Is it through google?
thanks if anyone can advise....cheers from perplexed as to how this has happened.....
Is anyone going to read and try and help - ???? please........
I see the words for the search engine identifier to Lissie's hub:-
Baz Luhrmann's Australia Movie features as is climax the Darwin bombing raids of 1942. Its a useful history lesson as most Australians have no idea that ...
I also see that Lissie's hub has 15 inbound links whereas yours only has two. You know what to do to get on top.
I am not sure that I can see where your coming from. I used Google based in Australia for this search.
As an aside, a search engine normally takes the first few sentences for the url identifier (as in Lissie's hub) and in a video it takes exactly dead centre of the video as the snapshot.
Hi Terry thanks for your answer - it is now 7.17am on the 13/1/09 in Australia and I have just googled (which google I do not know - I am not very knowledgeable in these areas) and the key words I used were - Australia, bombing of Darwin, a family story..The following is what I got.......

same preceding identifying words as I specified two days ago .......
Now from your words "I also see that Lissie's hub has 15 inbound links whereas yours only has two. You know what to do to get on top."
Are asking me if I know how to get my hubs to the top and the short answer is no - it is serendipitous when it happens & I would actually like this to happen more but also I would to know why the words are mixed up ..lol- so who actually puts the hubs up onto the search engines - maybe the words were confused there......
it would appear from what you are saying that Lissie's hub is better received because of the many inbound links (maybe I will ask Lissie for lessons on how to do this!) and that is all good - I am just asking about the words advertising each hub
cheers and thanks
Yeah I am confused too - I see my hub as #2 for that search (no quotes)

The 2 line snipet come either from the start of the hub or your custom summary if you have used one
Your hub is on page 3

which also looks like the correct snipet for your hub?
The real question is how the hell do I trigger any relevant Adsense ad - nice organic traffic zero clicks cause no one wants to know about the peace causes being advertised LOL
terryg which tool are you using to count inbound links on hub - I use seoelite but it doesnt work for anything but the top level domain which is pretty useless for hubpages
Kissie, here's how I do it-
Type the following into search.yahoo.com:
links: www.beautifulweddinginvitations.com
And here's what you get:
http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0g … p;ei=UTF-8
Off to the right it will say:
"1 - 10 of 926 for links: www.beautifulweddinginvitations.com"
voila, those are your incoming links!
Hi Lissie, Wedding Consultant has hit the nail on the head. I use link:url on Yahoo as well for incoming links.
ajcor - Hi - to get on top you need more links or better PR text links. That was what I was alluding to.
As to who puts the hubs on search engines, well thats the search engine bot. Not human edited. You certainly have a dilemna in your url descriptions. Try changing the first sentence of your hub and see what happens.
Thanks TerryG
How do I get more inbound links? - would that be by advertising?
submitting to search engines?
a committed use of key words?
or the social networks? seems to me in this area that hub pages do nicely for us as my hubs seem to be at the top quite often with no effort on my part.....
cheers and thanks
I did an experiment and placed a hubpage about dominating page one on any search engine. As I proved my point about having the hubpage dominate page 1 of Google, I unfortunately was slapped with a duplicate content penalty by HP and the hub became un-published.
I was very dissapointed that HP penalised me when I totally explained my actions. How can something be duplicated when it is first published on HP is beyond my belief.
Without being too overly promotional if you put this phrase in Google search - Page Rank 7 One Way Back Links - you will find I hold the top three spots. Just go to the scribd document and follow the links where all is explained.
Anyway, that is how you get backlinks. Works for any keyword phrase two by the way.
Thank you for this info TerryG - will experiment over the next few days and then come back tell you how I have gone.....most appreciated...cheers
Oh I see what you mean ajcor - and no I have never seen google do that before - the "similar page" - because we are both on hubpages and writing a similar topic and google has added your descritpion to mine - very weird!
The only thing I can think of is that I had linked to your hub in my hub and included your default description - which maybe is what google is confused on - so I have re-written the description of your hub in mine (under the kidman photo) so that google sees no words the same between the 2 - maybe that will stop it
We will have to wait a few days to see if there is a change though

I've been on here for a few years, and I guess I never really understood the point of these scores. They don't seem to provide any real value to the user and I can't convince myself that they add value because they fluctuate so much. What's the point? Am I supposed to use these scores to tell me...

I hope this is in the right forum. I am trying to figure out what went wrong with my hub. The second day I was on the first page of google. I realized that I hadn't put the right title, I meant to change it before I published it and had forgot. so I went back and change the title....

Could any SEO expert here in hubpages let me know why my webpage was on google first page now ended up in page 20? There is not a change that I thought would impact this, but I found this happened couple times before where my pages going from 1st in google ended up not found on top 5 pages.

Every article on every niche site links back to the HubPages domain via our profile links. That's right, each and every niche site has hundreds of links to a website that Google hates. There is no way this is a good thing. Shouldn't something be done about that?

There is a lot of bad SEO (search engine optimization) advice out there, and the use of automated services that procure backlinks to your Hubs is one particularly egregious example. Using services to get backlinks can result in your Google AdSense and/or HubPages account permanently banned. Yes, we...
