Now that its almost over, I realize I didn't do any of those great summer things I used to do - didn't swim in an over-chlorinated pool with a bunch of kids pretending to be sharks

didn't sit out on the side of a hill at sunset about 9:30 pm listening to the traffic on the distant freeway

didn't chase the ice cream truck

    didn't run through a sprinkler

and what about you?  did you do the things you used to do?  I need to hear that summer is still like that for many people.  So please share your summer a little with me.

Yes, that's the way it is around here - I have to be inside a lot anyway, but don't HAVE to be in front of the computer. Can't seem to tear myself away.

But I have to go up to get the mail and then I notice how spectacular it is in summer!  Got a new birdfeeder too, and there are so many birds getting fat at it. Lovely.

I didn't run naked in the rain this year but maybe that's because I made sure I stayed sobre! hehe

don't do alot of the stuff I used to when I wasn't sober!  can't say that's a BAD thing though - I don't miss that hangovers on Sundays!  that's for sure!

This summer, I didn't have to:

    1. cope with potty training
    2. scramble and pack for a daily picnic (it's all prepacked now)
    3. wear warm clothing since the weather has been hot and wonderful
    4. survive a June snowstorm.  Think this is the first in 10 years.
    5. avoid hiking because of poison ivy
    6. entertain people who didn't want to be present
    7. contend with disagreeable people

    This summer, I did:

    1.  enjoy the outdoors more
    2.  took it easy for the weekends
    3.  spent one on one time with each child
    4.  went to the movies and watched shows rated 14+  smile
    5.  went kayaking
    6.  went swimming in the lake
    7.  help others
    8.  coach soccer
    9.  coach more soccer
    10. coach my kids how to play soccer
    11. met with my girlfriends and hung out to all hours of the morning smile
    12. tried something new each week that I had not tried before

Thanks Mega!  Hope you have enjoyed your summer so far.  smile

Yes!  I remember those delightful days - teaching my kids how to ride bikes and how to avoid poison oak and bees and yellow jackets.   We lived 2 blocks away from a marvelous beach and so I used to spend hours and hours in the sand and in the water.

This summer was very cool and foggy - it looks like we're going to have a few 90 degree days now without fog and I'm looking forward to that.  The blackberries will get ripe, but I don't plan to pick them, since there is poison oak lurking there and last year I had the worst case of it for 2 weeks.

In a couple weeks I will have been on HubPages for a whole year!  that's exciting!  so I'm looking back at the way I used to write and laughing a bit.  I think it's improved, but I've lost a little of my spontaneity - would like to regain that.

I heard some fabulous bluegrass music a week ago and I'm writing about it - making a video to share.

It was a good summer - looking forward to fall.

We all had summers, didn't we?  Well, maybe not really - since it was pretty cool here and more like spring.

Well, working on a ship that does round trips for tourists, I've mostly been working - maybe one day off a week if I'm lucky.
    I'm sick of it now.

so, then you probably like winter better if you're working with tourists all summer!

I hate the cold - but somehow I'm looking forward to it this year ...
Actually, I should get quite a lot of time off during autumn, then I have to go to school from January to April ... then it starts all over again with the tourists.

Sorry to gloat, but still in the middle of a long hot summer here, eating at pavement restaurants, swimming in the river, chasing each other round naked and all big_smile big_smile

Still 3 weeks of holiday left who-wooo   Second childhood is fantastic !!

another good reason for me to feel so fortunate - no tourists for me!  also winter is quite mild and I like the rain!

Summer is still in full flow over here in Austin, we wont be seeing cool temperatures for another 2 or 3 months!

Earnings wise though, this year has been a little disappointing, even here at Hubpages sad

Ugh.  Summer.  I can't remember how to enjoy summer!  I always want to go somewhere or do something, but it doesn't happen.  No money.  School or work.  (this summer school, last summer work) Kids at their dads or spending time with other family members.  Bad weather when I have time or money.  Kids sleeping all day, and staying up all night.

Soon, in two years, my youngest will be a high school graduate and I'll need to find some other reason to do what it is I want to do during the summer.  Since my plans don't seem to mesh with those of my kids. hmm
