      Ok, let's explore this scientifically:
      
      Seventy feet below the surface, the water is cold but invigorating, your adrenaline coursing with the thrill of the dive.  You swim a few feet above a rough, rock formation, peering into its dark recesses, peeking in at glinting eyes that stare back at you above toothy grins or over pinching claws curled defiantly.  Sound is hushed down here, carrying from distances near and far.  The muffled thud of a stone tumbling down the rock face, crushing colorful sea stalks as it bounces and rolls in slow motion, sending out puffs of color with each rebound, clouding the water before the current obliterates the whirl into motes of things smaller creatures eventually will eat.
      
      A shadow passes over you, large and dark, like a police helicopter flying over your back yard.  You look up.  A shark.  Large and sinewy, its white belly almost invisible against the light far above.  It swims past, turns, half a spiral brings it to your level in the sea.  It swims towards you, forcing you to recede, sinking lower, seeking some protection in a large crevice in the rocks.
      
      An eel snakes it head out and grabs hold of your swim fins, its spiked teeth gripping like cleats, pining you to where you are.  The shark gets closer, it’s teeth saw blades grinning your malicious death.  You tremble and realize it’s suddenly warm inside your wet suit.
      
      Then, a crab the size of a Volvo scuttles around from the other side of the rocks, skittering towards you, it’s pointy feet stirring up white sand as it races towards you.  You realize it is one of the rare and dreaded breed of proctologist crabs, famed for probing claws the size of pianos.
      
      That’s when you discover there’s also a pair of jellyfish mating in your fancy rubber pants.
      
      
      Now, you tell me:  Can you cry under water?

      tears can come out, but I wouldnt recommend the "uh uh hhhuuhh" type sobbing that requires occasional deep breaths in...

      That's an interesting question. As Cags says, you can cry in the shower, but that is the same as crying in the rain, which apparently is quite a famous thing to do.
      
      Then Shadesbreath gave us a hub of a situation where you are underwater and there are sharks and things that bite and you might be very frightened, but would you cry?
      
      I think what might make me cry is seeing someone very close to me,like one of my children, getting eaten by a shark while we are both deep-sea diving (as if that is EVER going to happen!)
      
      Something like that would make me cry, but I don't know if it is theoretically possible underwater or not. Probably if you are wearing deep sea diving gear, but that might be dangerous in terms of being able to breathe, but if the water was shallow, you'd automatically go to the surface to cry, wouldn't you?

   I know this isn't going to sound right, but the meaning is only for example purposes and I do not wish to offend, but to answer the question.
   
   Can you cry under water?
   
   The answer is Yes you can cry under water and the example would come from a women who has been abused(raped) and they run into the shower(turning it on extremely hot) to clean themselves from the dirt they feel, but while the whole time crying.
   
   If you are making reference to someone actually submerged under water, then I cannot think of a situation, that would put those two things together, at the same place, at the same time.
   
   Usually, when around water, which can submerge ones head, would be in a tub(reference similar to the above example) or in a pool or at a beach, the latter two are fun times..so you get the point.
   
   Just my thoughts on it.

   I saw Finding Nemo, sharks dont skurr me..but they are tasty Cajun and blackened

   Ok guys and girls DO NOT FEAR!!!!!
   I am about to embark in a perilious journey of under sea navigation to personally test all the above theories.
   If I don't come back....I may come head to head with a white pointer please engrave on my tombstone
