I happened to be logged on yesterday or the day befote when I noticed someone new had followed me.  I checked their  profile and saw that they are a right wing type and thought either I have picked up a stalker or he made a mistake :-)

Sure enough, a few minutes later the followers count dropped by one and when I checked he was gone (checking takes too long, I wish these sorted in order of following or alphabetically).  He probably had to go wash up after reading my views.

I am a pretty far left liberal.  I support gay marriage, national health insurance, separation of church and state, labor unions, higher tax rates for people making millions per year and more - all the things that most conservatives think are utterly insane.

Fine - I'm insane.  It's the way I am and the way I think the world should work.   I was born into a pretty well off family and I haven't lacked for much in my life.  I feel tremendous empathy toward people who have less and struggle hard just to keep their heads above water.  I was "different" all my life and again have empathy for people who are seen that way.

I cannot help what I feel and although I get frustrated with Democratic obeisance to big business, the liberals have a kinder view of the world than the conservatives and I just have to go in that direction.

So, yes, I am a liberal.  Sorry about that smile

Don't be sorry, there's still hope that you can be converted to the common sense of freedom.

It's funny how, when you examine the 'common sense of freedom'.

It doesn't extend to a woman's right to control over her body.

It doesn't extend to freedom of religion.

The 'common sense of freedom crowd' want to change the 14th and 17th amendmdnts of the constitution - to restrict freedom.

When you finally pin down what freedom they are most worried about - they want the freedom not to pay their fair share of taxes for living in this country.

I don't label myself usually. All those right/left wing things confuse me.

But I agree with most of what you listed so I might be on that side. I support brothels, does that make me liberal? big_smile (We just had our first brothel opened in town and the christian folk went WILD!)

      I wouldn't go there however.

I checked and they are about double what is charged in a big city about two hours away. big_smile

let's see what I can agree with you on...

I support gay marriage, but not national health insurance, separation of church and state (but in a different sense than you, I'm sure *wink wink*), I can agree with labor unions - but not the kind we have today, can't agree with you on taxes...

Ok, so, what's that... Kind of a 3 out of 5. Hey, that ain't bad! We'd probably be friends in RL

      Labor unions: check
Higher tax rates for millionaires: Not sure but we sure are taxed!

I am not a liberal.  I am a conservative, yet I support gay marriage, the legalization of marijuana, and a few other more liberal views.  I do not support national health care (take a good hard look at every country that has it, and the serious problems that they are facing with it, trust me, I have done the research.)  I support separation of church and state in the manner in which it was created (to keep the church from taking political control of the country the way it was in England, and the reason most of the settlers left).  I do support the first amendment rights regarding religion...that Congress shall make no laws establishing a national religion, no laws prohibiting the free exercise of religion.  So many liberals miss the part about being able to freely express your religion. Funny how that works...

Hmmmm....I've lived in two countries with national health care and must say I love the fact that I can go to the doctor, be treated in hospital and never have to worry about payments, insurance etc. I've had excellent doctors and specialists too!

Although I did like the option in Australia of either being a private patient or being a public patient. I do like the freedom of choice in that regard.

From what I've seen all health care systems have systemic problems, no matter what country you look at.

But for someone like myself with a chronic genetic illness that would not be covered by private insurance in the States I am sure glad I can be treated here without racking up huge medical bills I could never afford to pay.

On that topic I do also believe in legalizing marijuana. If Canada legalized their thriving pot business, taxed it and put all that money into health care then we would have the best medical system in the world. big_smile

Actually, I think you are incorrect with regards to what you think "most liberals think" about religion. We don't care if you express your religion anywhere you want. however,  you can't read YOUR prayer over the intercom at school, because other kids might not believe "in the name of Jesus." Do you see the difference? Pray in school all day, but don't make everyone else pray how you pray or even at all. Nobody cares about you expressing your religion. Wear a cross, hold a sign, yell at the top of your lungs about whatever you want. HOWEVER, you can't make others express in the same way you do.

Nothing wrong with that. I tend to vote liberal because I also support most of their policies and I appreciate the fact that they do have real policies and not just vague ideas about "freedom" and "real Americans" and "family values", you know, those things that are really just "rah-rah BS" intended to pander to the lowest common denominator.

If an insane person thinks you're insane, are you really insane? Be proud to be a liberal. I follow some liberal users on here, and also many conservatives. I would never want to shut out the other side from the debate because debating politics is my favorite way to waste time.

Isn't it ironic that the right wing republicans have been responsible for war, unemployment, protecting the rich, allowing coporate greed to run riot and almost bring the economy to its knees as a result. Isn't it ironic that right wing republicans advocate the death penalty and have killed innocent people this way, and that fundamentalist christianity is nothing more than a cheap excuse for condemning anyone who disagrees with such a one eyed view of the world?

And how can any country anywhere, particularly a wealthy one not embrace a national health system for its people? Stop looking at the cost look at the longer term benefits of a healthier population and what that could contribute to the economy.

For those that disagree with such a policy of free healthcare for every citizen, would you prefer to step over dead people in the street and go about your daily business?

PCunix I admire and concur with your stance but it's a constant battle on here with those fixed minds who truly believe the right wing republican way is working despite the evidence that it isn't.

And those hubbers who condemn Cuba??? it would be funny if they didn't mean it, but they do......

Today, in another thread, one of the very outspoken conservatives here said:

"It's not normal for you to want the best for a stranger." in response to my saying that wanting a good life for all is part of my liberal view.   She added that I need a psychiatrist smile

As she is also notably religious, I have asked her what the fabled Jesus fellow might think of her remark.

Isn't it ironic that liberals talk about killing of "innocent" people via the death penalty, but they turn a blind eye when U.S. citizens are killed every day by gangs and because of drug crime.  Cities like Chicago which have adopted sanctuary city policies are experiencing a dramatic upsurge in crime and violence.  Liberals have been responsible for countless acts of domestic terrorism (The Weather Underground).  Isn't it ironic that countless liberals walk around with t-shirts with images of Chairman Mao and Che Guevara, despite the fact that both of these people killed a combined number of innocent people ranging in the thousands.  Isn't it ironic that liberals support a socialist nanny state, where the government tells you what you can and can't do, what you can and can't eat, yet in the 60's, these same liberals rebuked the government, and didn't want the government telling them what to do.  Isn't it ironic that most liberals think that all conservatives are republican, white, wealthy and war mongering.

If you look at all the major cities across the country that have serious economic problems you'll find a common thread of progressive government. Chicago is one where progressives have run that city for more than 50 years. You'll see it in Philadelphia as well and in other big cities. Progressives are a cancer in government, a perversion of the American ideals that made this country great.

I grew up near Chicago, and had to deal with tax happy, liberal Mayor Daly all my life.  I am not uninformed when it comes to the liberal political machine in Chicago.  The quality of life in Chicago has deteriorated, the crime level has escalated at an overwhelming rate, and as much as I love my home city, I can't imagine living there now.  It just isn't the same place anymore.  There were always parts of the city you knew to avoid, but now, it's just not the same place it was.

Anna, let me list for you: conservative militia groups evidenced by McVeigh and Koresh. Klansmen. Yes, they are your people, not mine. How many have they killed? Neo Nazis, again...your people. What about the abortion doctors? How many of them have been killed by YOUR people? Want to go further? Iraq was YOUR war, and a war for NO REASON. How many Iraqis and American soldiers died because you were too lazy to read anything about how the Middle East works, what an unstable Iraq would mean to the Middle East, and how far apart Al Queda and Hussein were? But nope. You don't give a shit. You think liberals are in support of gangs huh? You are a fucking moron.

I agree very much with paraglider there. It does seem that the principles of common sense are called "Liberal" and things such as health care and affordable housing, principles that should be thought of as nothing more than common humanity are called communist. A twisted way of looking at things it seems to me.
