What are some good take aways current Hubbers might offer a newbie like myself?
Being fairly new myself, (6 weeks old), all I can say is read the learning hubs, write great content filled Hubs and be patient.! Good Luck and welcome!
Stay out of the religion forums. They are a drag!
well first of all, i'd worry about setting up your google adsense first before you publish anything. that's a huge mistake i made coming here, as i didn't set it up until AFTER i had published like over a 100 hubs on here. lol. trust me, not a great way to start out. lol.
yeah..mess with me and i'll kill ya....(evil laughs) heheheheh just kidding. your alright. just leave me to my own devices and we'll get along just fine. hehehehehe
My usual advice for new hub writers....
Read, learn, implement, read more, learn more, implement more and constantly repeat same process.
Sunforged, Relache, Marisa Wright, Shazwellyn, Edweirdo, Humagaia, Darkside(in relation to HubPages), RebekahELLE are just the beginning reading.
Work on SEO techniques, write quality content, continue to self improve, uses the tools available(Extreme Hub Makeover Forum) and always remain consistent and honest in your work.
Edit: Welcome to HubPages
If your goal is mainly to write or produce video/photographs, then...be creative. This is one of the best platforms there is right now for publishing, in terms of flexibility, exposure and support.
If your goal is to earn rev share money, then...
If you're not earning at least a few pennies after at least 10 hubs AND three weeks of having AdSense on the hubs, then before you go crazy writing a zillion more, pause, figure out what needs to change, and apply what you learned.
Not that you ever stop learning in this business - there's always something to change. But from what I've seen, people can only be patient to a point before they give up. People who get serious about this tend to get motivated by the earnings. For many, it's no earnings, no motivation, and no direction.
That said, there are no rules. Do what works for you.
Time management. Set up a schedule and stick to it will create a rhythm of daily actions. welcome to HubPages.
Hi everyone, do we also submit every hub page URL to search engines?
Hello lpeoney, you might want to try pinging them. This will notify several search engines and other high trafficked sites that your hub exists, or has been updated.
Submitting to search engines is time wasted. Learn onpage seo like keywords, effective titles, etc.. Then for rankings in Google you will need to promote your hub, backlinks is 70% of offsite seo. Someone made a good analogy once, if you go to a party and your with Pamela Anderson, you will be noticed through association. Think of backlinks in this manner. Getting links to your hub gets you noticed by Google, thus you move your hub up in the rankings. If you get one Pamela Anderson type of backlink, well, you move up quicker.
Learn from the experienced hubbers!! They will teach you a lot!!
Write, write and write some more. It is easy to spend an evening after work just reading the forums instead of producing hubs! The time management suggestion was spot on and remember to set goals.
Check out forum threads on knowledge exchange, need help? ask here , I am learning from these threads. Some are like a ready reference on the stuff you need to read up.
welcome
