Filtering Out Those Advertisers That Pay Pennies

   Does anyone else filter out the low paying "junky" advertisers on Adsense with KeywordSpy.com? I started doing it and it has helped a lot on some of the other sites that I write for and on other forums it is recommended. Any thoughts?

   I know there's a few people who go the opposite way - hit the keywords that are low paying but high traffic. EVERYONE tries to go for the high paying keywords.

   I filtered out a bunch of low-paying ads and ad categories but I did it using the tools provided in AdSense.

      Yeah, that's what I did also, Relache. I'm glad Google provides that option. WryLilt-- I don't think you understood my post. I meant filter out those advertisers that bid on every keyword you can think of for like a penny or pennies.

      I do that too - I rewrote my highest traffic hub slightly with better keywords, and ended up drastically increasing the income it made.

   I filter out the advertisements which are broad, generic and untargetted.  Take for instance Groupon and Evony. Low paying ads might not earn you much per click, but you might be shooting yourself in the foot as the tide of advertiser keyword bids ebbs and flows.

      Me too - the Groupon ads are so annoying! I don't want them invading my Hubs!

   I experimented with an idea for a while, and it did not show any gain overall, quite the contrary - my revenues decreased. Of course I don't bother anymore.

   This actually is not that simple since we don't know exactly about the all the possible advertiser and which ads will come up. I'm afraid if you block low-paying ads, you get even lower paying ads instead. Google serves the highest paying ads first, they make more with this advertiser as well.
   It really need some experiments, trial and error process, which I'm not ready now.

      you have to use keywordspy.com to give you an idea of what the site's daily ad budget and CPC is.

   I don't filter my ads and I do OK. Some of the ads you think are low paying could actually pay more than you think!
   
   Dating ads for example are sometimes very good payers.
   
   Dating, weight loss etc. etc. are in competitive niches.
   
   Also some niches will pay more in certain countries.
   
   If you turn off the user preferences ads in Google AdSense you might see your revenue increase, or it might decrease.
   
   I wonder if turning the ad settings to medium might help as well, but that would probably reduce CTR.
   
   Aaargh, it's all so complicated. The best thing is to write great content and let Google handle the ad decisions!!!

   I don't bother.  Those ads usually only show up when Google can't figure out anything better to offer, right?   If Google thinks a high paying ad is appropriate, isn't that what they will show?  If they don't have anything, I suppose there is some junk you might want to get rid of for aesthetic reasons or to avoid offending readers, but gosh, that would almost be a full time job as these new advertisers pop in and out constantly!
