copying ability on hubpages

   Hi everyone,
   
   I am relatively new to hubpages, I have one article posted already, I strive for quality and it takes some time. That being said, I have noticed that hubpages rules state that we (the authors) own our own work and that hubpages simply supplies the software to publish that work. That is good. However, I am concerned about anybody being able to copy my work at will and subsequently being able to use it in copyright infringement somewhere else. If we truly own our own work, wouldn't it behoove hubpages to acquire software that prevents copying of our articles? I know it exists because I have seen it at work on other sites (I can't name any at the moment) but the website software disables a persons own computer ability to copy to their clipboard. Doesn't this sound like a good idea? and then we don't have to worry about copyright infringement from the get go. That is how hubpages can assure a better provision of the software and website to publish our hubs.
   
   I am aware of licensure capability that we have, I have not set that up yet, just because I do or do not grant a license to copy and use my article, doesn't mean that somebody will honor my request. There has to be some kind of enforcement of the law available.
   
   I am going in the right direction here? Or am I totally off base? Advise please... Thanks.

      Because YOU own the copyright to your own work, it's not HubPages responsibility to defend those copyrights.  It's up to you, the copyright owner, to defend and enforce your legal ownership.
      
      I recommend you read up on what copyright means and how they work if you are going to continue publishing on this platform.

      Please don't be shy about naming the other website, you won't be punished for it. Seeing how it works will help us comment on its usefulness.
      
      That said, there are ways to get around software that limits the ability to copy.  So it may not be worth the effort or the cost.

   That sounds like an excellent idea and would save a lot of people the trouble of filing DMCA complaints. I didn't know such software existed.

   Welcome to HubPages!
   
   Would you like HubPages to remain as it is now or do you want HubPages to actually charge for using it's platform?
   
   If you want copyright protection for your work, then get it copyrighted by an authority who copyrights works. HubPages supplies a limited version of copyright protection in a manner of speaking, but it is not the weight of an actual copyright trademark type.
   
   Then again, if you don't want your work to be infringed upon, then the only real way to keep it, is to not publish it at all.
   
   Just a thought.
   
   On a side note- copyright infringement isn't the clearest of law(s) in the world either. There are some people who take it to a whole other level, like music recording and movies, on the re-distribution aspects, but in essence in the overall scheme of the world and including the Internet....there is simply nothing that could be done. The software you talk about, would probably force HubPages to charge for it's platform, which would reduce the number of people who would publish.

   This is pretty much how it is anywhere on the Internet.  Whatever you publish may be stolen.  It may or may not get discovered when something has been.  That's one reason I don't put stuff I care a whole lot about on the Internet.  If someone else pays me to write for their site I don't keep the rights to it anyway, so it isn't my problem.   
   
   Copying happens.  Every time it does I have the overwhelming urge to take down whatever got stolen.  It gets really tiring and disgusting when you discover it too many times.  Just don't put any writing you really care about on the Internet.
