   When a movement is sprung without leadership, born of common recognition of basic principle being violated and needing to be set straight, and needing it so bad that people otherwise not engaged will set aside money and time and defeat the political parties to get it done, then this movement is not "fringe", it is THE body of truth, it is mainstream.

         I have an unfavorable view of them, unfortunately.
         
         They WERE about freedom and the Constitution back when 40,000+ people each donated an average of 120 bucks to Ron Paul's Campaign back on December 16th, 2007.
         
         Now they're about religious and racial bigotry. It's quite sad what the neo-cons have done.

   If they felt so strongly about "their party" that they had to name it "Tea Party" and not just push themselves as Conservatives, why didn't they like other parties, start their own party. Independents, Green Party, Libratarian, they all did it on "their" own.  The Tea Party- GOP, is using a GOP to help fund and get on the ballot without having to go through the proper channels. The GOP was excited to have these people at first and now they are so scared they don't know whether to punt pass or throw. Their unity will be their downfall. The ignorance of the Tea Party members will be theirs.  That's what happens when you preach divisiveness and fear. Our country is going to hell in a hand basket.

      Apathy has been the American problem for 40 years. It has finally reached critical mass and people are finally at their breaking point. It is about way more then just Bush and Obama. Ask the incumbent GOP  if people are pissed.

         People were not apathetic during Bush! Not at all.
         They were just told to shut up and they were also monitored and watched like hawks by the police and world police force.
         
         Check it out....if you can go on you-tube and see.....every time there was a Move On march, rally or protest, or an anti-war protest,  the military was out in force. You would NEVER have seen them carrying guns to a rally! They would have been thrown in  jail!
         And what about Cindy Sheehan? She was hardly apathetic, and she had a big movement with her....and they were DEMONIZED by the so-called patriotic crowd. Because they dared to criticize King George.
         
         NO! People were NOT apathetic! The Tea-Baggers just have the big power behind them.
         And much more freedom from the Obama administration than the Bush protestors ever had from Bush.
         
         In fact, the first act of Ashcroft was to stifle dissent.
         
         People are re-writing history to suit the tea-baggers, making them out to be "the first protest of the gvt" or something. They are hardly the first, but they are given the most priviledge and freedom!!

   Suppose you were a passenger in a 747. The stewardess announces that the pilot is held up in traffic and the plane will depart on time. One passenger says - he will fly the plane - he had a model airplane as a kid. Would you celebrate the rise of the airline passenger getting what he deserves - a chance to fly the real thing?
   
   Anyone can become an airline pilot - with years of study and practice. The outright foolishnes of these - citizen-candidates from nowhere who aspire to  govern on the national scene is much more frightening then a passenger-pilot.
   
   Enter Angle, Rand Paul and company - ready to try (I emphasize TRY) the controls of the ship of state. Be afraid - be VERY afraid.

         Of the seven Americans generally considered the 'founding fathers' - (Washington,  Jefferson, Adams, Madison,  Hamilton, Hancock and Franklin) only two did NOT have 'Ivy League' educations.  The idea that this country was founded on the ideas and principles of 'average' Americans is a myth. The structure of this government, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the finest principles of this nation are the product of what you sneer at as 'elitists'.

    I think the right means "you are free to have my religion".

    The oversimplification of these TP people is very, very scary.
    
    The reality is, America is a substantially (gross understatement) more complex nation and society in 2010 than it was in 1776. The world is more complex and more dangerous as well -- not to mention that other countries DO happen to value education, even if the Tea Party eschews it.
    
    This call to return to the simpler days of yesteryear (200+ years ago) with government run by rabid, trigger-happy "Christians" must look mighty crazy to both our allies and our enemies around the globe.
    It sure does from here!
