I don't like to bombard people with questions so I hope this won't be the start of too many but how can I know if my writing is up to standard?
Someone has already asked the question about length and I think that has been well answered, but I am just wondering if there is any way that someone can say how you are doing? Is this just done through comments?
Thanks again.
Length is good but meaningless without girth! heehee
You can post a link to a hub with any questions you have in the sub-forum Extreme Hub Makeover.
Another reading (to some degree, anyway) of how you're doing is whether your Hubs move to a Hub Score of over 75 after a few days (often before that). Under 75 isn't good.
Is that right Lisa? I thought that it was to do with authorscore being below 75 - I wasnt aware of it being hubs as well - or have i got this back to front?
You are correct, shazwellyn. The authorscore (the one on your avatar) needs to be 75 or above. Individual hub scores need to be above 40.
Sure but individual hubscore has nothing to do with the writing quality of the hub.
Obviously the algorithm cant judge that.
You can easily start with a high hub score by using many capsules using many of the available options.
The only way to really judge that would be through the feedback you receive in comments, and thats iffy too, as you will mostly get comments from other hubbers and you have to be getting visits to have an opportunity to receive those comments.
Hubbers are very nice in their commentary, not often will one get critical response outside of inflammatory topics.
You are really the only critic that matters
You said: 'Sure but individual hubscore has nothing to do with the writing quality of the hub'.
It is strange you said that ... in the last couple of days a hub was mentioned in the hp forum. The content did seem good, but the hubscore was dropping like a lead balloon! I had never seen a hub with good content drop to below 46!
I was wondering whether the system had picked up some extreme fluctuation in traffic - like the increase was abnormal. ... Very interesting....
I have been to your hub and left my message and I am now following you also. Welcome to Hubpages.
First the writing is good and it is interesting etc.
If you want to make money from adverts on your hub you are not going to make any. The hub is general and not about any commodity of any kind, refreshing and nice, but not commercial. If you want to gear it toward advertising revenue you have to put in either about tours to the place or something that is made there or whatever. If you want to know how NOT to make money go look at my hubs - if you want to know HOW TO MAKE MONEY go look at any number of good hubs, Nellie Hoxley, Misha, Website Examiner, thisisoli - many many more but I am getting these from memory and it hurts so I will stop
The pictures are high up where the advert should be - and too small to see for landscape. I normally put them down the side and at the bottom, others put them in blocks so you get a text block then a pic block then a text block etc etc.
Good luck.
Thanks everyone for your help and I will try and take on board all the information (Or rather I'll keep coming back to take notes).
I am not sure I agree that length is meaningless without girth, I think a bit of both is good, but if you can only get one or the other I'll settle for either! grins.

I have had many personal requests that stem from this feature. Sometimes I am not sure what the person is asking because I'm not sure what hub they came from.A question that just says "my reptile," doesn't help me answer the question because all reptiles are different, and I have hubs on...

Is it rude to point out grammar/spelling mistakes on hubs via comments?I've come across numerous hubs that have grammar and spelling errors, some minor and some littered with mistakes. Otherwise, these hubs would be interesting and will written in my opinion. Is it rude to point out these mistakes...

Why do people post hubs without a comment section?Every now and then I come across hubs with no comment section. Are these the result of simple oversight, or perhaps people not familiar with the various elements you can add to hubs? Or do they just not want to interact? It seems odd... blogs and...
